My 5.3 swap thread!

love the new thread! good call on getting all of the common search terms in the title.
maybe throw "5.3 engine" in there somewhere too.

(responding here to keep that one as clean as possible. ;) )

oh, and for what its worth, I was planning on putting this swap off until next year, but I may have lucked out on getting a motor. I found a guy that buys late model trucks, but pretty much only wants the body panels and doors off of them. I assume he runs an auto body shop or something. anyway, he quoted me ~$700 for a 6.0 with everything I could want still attached. $500 for a 5.3. he didn't have a 6.0 in stock, but said he buys a new truck about once a week. if it works out, we may see a swap thread soon. :D

ok cool! let me know for sure. Ive been looking for awhile locally but most people want twice to triple that.

sorry for slight hijack, but you cant pass up something like that!
 
You should have put the new thread into the tech articles section. Much less traffic and less likely to be lost or even over run in there, meaning easy to find. Plus, that section is for stuff just like that.

Maybe a mod can move it?

5.3's near you! Crazy price difference! Its nearly identical to the scenario up here that prevented me from going 6.0...

I feel lots of the 6.0L's are coming out of fleet type trucks, hence the mileage.....

All the 5.3's are lower mileage.

Smog wise though, don't think i can legally go with a smaller displacement motor than i currently have....

speaking of smog, does DEQ here care about motor swaps or have any funny rules or do they just care if it passes? I'm sure you 5.3 will have no problem, how does that work if you do your 4bt idea on your other rig? :dunno:
 
"I keep them all at my property in Umatila County" where there is no smog inspections. Just go to DMV and purchase new tags. "I do sometimes bring them back to Portland for maintenance and periodic use".

I did however one time have a suburban that i put a 500ci Caddy motor in. The guy knew right off it was a swap but just tested me, i passed, and he sold me the new tags.
