My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

It never freaking stops.... :doah:

I realized I installed the dizzy wrong.
Pulled it.

Went to get the engine at TDC#1.... The timing mark is at 11:00.
Great...

New Harmonic Balancer, here I come...
the best part is, it lined up perfect for us last time.

For now just put it at tdc and take a white paint market and make a new mark. It might at least help you get the timing close so you can drive it.

I could get it at ~TDC without the mark.... That's not a problem.
It's my semi-OCD mental faculties, that won't allow me to have spent this much time,
Just to cheap out on my Harmonic Balancer.

Why would I use a light with no timing mark lol.

Stabbed dizzy in, turned till ran good, revved up, tweaked till it was smooth up and down with throttle. Tightened that sob up  :haha:

The way is was taught is to start it up and rev it high enough that the distributor is at full advance. Then keep advancing it until it sounds like it is spinning "free", if you keep advancing it it will start it miss out a little. I go to that point and then back it off some. Thats probably too advanced for real world driving but its a start. :thumb:

Alright.... I need some Old-Guy opinions. :deal:

Here's the process:

- put engine at 10*BTDC, as per the BBC Rebuild Guide.
*** I am 100% sure that its 10*BTDC, on the Compression stroke.***
- lined up the Oil Pump Drive, with the appropriate leeway for Dizzy install.
- installed Distributor, by adding the little extra for Rotor movement, etc.
- made sure its fully seated/engaged.

The CLOSEST I've gotten to 'perfectly on #1', is about 3/16" advanced;
If the Vacuum canister outlet is pointing EXACTLY at the center of the Valve Cover.

Am I just taking this way too literally?

If im understanding this correctly, thats exactly how it should be. If the engine is at 10* BTDC then the rotor should be pointing just behind where number one is on the cap. I say put the cap on, run the wires, and fire it up. :dunno:

Get this... My "90* boot" plug wires, were actually "straight boots" in a 90* box.

:doah: :haha: :dunno:

And, yea... I had to walk away, and clear my head.
Now, it's like, "Duh... Of course the rotor is advanced, because the engine is advanced." :haha:
