My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

If there is a little water in it it wont kill it. Just break it in normally and change the oil and filter. I know its hard to believe, but your over thinking the splash of water in the oil. If it came out a milk shake you would be correct, but a couple spoonfulls of water in oil wont hurt it.

I look at the situation, as follows:

- Reseal the bolts, see what happens.
- If I end up having to pull the heads, I'll put the better flowing '781' heads on.
- if anything else is wrong, im putting a 5.3L Vortec in here. :thumb:

Really.... There's no downside.
Except all the wasted effort, but, like Chris says.... "Y.O.L.O." :popcorn:

Your oil lights on? I didn't know they had those yet.

I would point out that you could, you know, make the rest of the truck work & move & stuff, put brakes on and whatnot, before you go changing the whole fricken motor.

Well duh.... All thats left is brakes and a driveshaft. :D

I spent I think five years working on the brakes on the brown truck. Most of that time was actually spent not working on the truck, as evidenced by its holding down my driveway ... but, well, this is The Voice Of Experience talking :haha:The "simple" things can snowball, so best to take care of them -- SIMPLY -- and then go on to the complicated.

Time to admit my mistakes.... :doah:

At the advice of many (its a VASTLY debated topic), i had originally used Ultra Black RTV.
Yea... Well.... It works for a LOT of people, but I am NONE of those people. :doah:

When the bolts/head 'relaxed', the RTV split and allowed coolant to race up the threads.

I cleaned and resealed all the head bolts, one-by-one, in the torque sequence.
It was a BITCH... Thank gawd for small hands, and a multitude of tools.

Hopefully this solves it.
Gonna run water this time, and see what happens.

Gotta pick up some more oil, and get this thing timed correctly.
Then, I'll run the sumb*tch in, and see if she holds water.

And, I've officially decided to call it "The Rat Bastard". :D
On account of my affinity to the Rat Fink, the Rat motor, and its inbred, bastardized qualities.

Did the permatex 300 just come from autozone?

I bought some permatex thread sealant with pf pe or whatever and it says not for high temps. I bought it on recomendation of the local machine shop. I may have drilled extremely close to the edge of the water jacket on my 5.3 head while getting a stuck exhaust manifold bolt out.

Would the permatex 300 be a better solution if the jacket seeps a bit?
 
300 is heavier bodied than their thread sealant.. it's good to 400 degrees....
