My 72 blazer

man i wish chevy would have stayed with the tailgate/lift gate option instead of going to a roll up window that never works

thanks guys

Greg - that is a great tip about using the replacement as a guide. never thought of that and the cut off wheel as making the perfect width.

Trav - very true. did a couple beads that were too long and warped the metal a bit

Mike - yup, flux core is what I have. Borrowing a Lincoln welder from a friend but no gas to go along with it. so working with what I have :) And yeah sadly I didn't remove the primer I had temporarily laid down.

Warrpath - seems the grass can always be greener. there are times i wish i could roll it down, ha. but my good friend has an 84 k5 and i understand. that thing is a beast to try and manually roll down. if it was electric i am sure it would have broke on his rig by now and have been permanently stuck.

Thanks all for the great tips and all.

Question to any who wish to reply:

What's your personal recommendation on redoing it: Cut out a larger area and put in a new patch using all your tips? Or live with it how it is since I will be covering it anyway?

Thanks again guys!

Move on to the next area. I'm sure you'll have plenty of practice with these old tubs by the time you're done.

I have two areas on my rig that were my first patches (not going to say where :D), I look at them now and giggle. I might cut them out eventually, but for now, they're staying.

If it were me, I wouldn't be in a big rush to cut it out again and replace it.

The "build process" is just that....a process. Your skills will improve immensely as you get deeper and deeper into the project, and when you go back (as Mike said) to look at work from earlier days, you will be amazed at how lousy some stuff looks....even though at the time you were really proud of it.

If there's a way to add a gas setup to that welder (or buy your own used welder with gas) your quality of work will improve substantially. Shielding gas gives a much nicer weld with a lot less cleanup afterwards.

My hole or whole pass side looks like that. I now look back and only I really see it. I told myself it wasn't a Porsche, it was an off road truck and if the welds broke after running it I would fix it. It hasn't as of yet.

SBD: Ha, love that you called it hole. And your philosophy on it is spot on.

Thanks all. Taking off the rust for the rest of the cab now, so far it's just surface rust with some pitting but not all the way through like the passenger side. Worst part is the PO welds on the rocker panels that weren't properly sealed, but still that is only surface rust.

All this is just building up to the summer when I take the top off and show some love to the windshield frame. :D

ugh, you have my sympathies:haha: I remember those days...

Nice work man, good first patch. As stated by everyone else, you'll get more comfortable with it AND better at it as you go:waytogo:

looks good bro!!

Good job, bud. Pretty nerve racking the first time you cut into your rig, huh?
yeah, I've got a nice spot I need to repair and I haven't gottne the nerve to make that first cut yet... still keep pussing out every time I think about it.

seat springs and clips

My driver seat seems to be missing some springs and clips...anyone know where I can get them? Here are two pics of left and right underside of my seat.

I have the cable that goes across between the two, but none of the springs to assist with adjusting the seat.

I searched the forum and several parts sites/catalogs with no luck.

Thanks in advance!

Got to do a lil wheelin last Sat

My buddy with his 84 and I with my 72 drove up to Ukiah to go on a few trails on Cow Mt OHV.

It was a great day of going up and down the trails. Nothing really difficult, but just having fun and trying not to break anything (which we were successful at). :D

Nice Blazer to start with...sometimes I wish i would find one around here cheep enough that I would buy it...but then it would be in chunks all over my garage cause non rusty 1st gens are all but gone,at least around here.

I like that you are trying to fix it and keep driving at the same time...that is what I try to do now aswell...after all the years I have spent with project vehicals I finally realized that if they don`t run there no fun.

Then they get sold. :doah:

SO...Good job so far! :waytogo:

completely agree. I'm trying to keep my mods down to what I can do over a weekend, or maybe a couple of months in the winter. I think it keeps the enjoyment factor up. :thumb:

You guys are no fun, with your fancy running blazers and all. :D

One question though....What do ya set your beer down on in the garage if there's no blazer in there???

:haha::haha:
I wonder were Teck set his beer... I'm betting not on his nice powdercoated parts and paint.

I do have to admit that the garage feels kinda weird and empty if the blazer isn't parked in there. :doah:
