My 86 K5 Build **wondering what's next**

Sweet looking rig. Looking to do the same setup with my burb, had a couple questions about your suspension;

Was wondering, with the shackle flip and 4" springs up front, how level does the truck sit?

How far forward did the rear axle get pushed with the shackle flip?

I really look forward to the rest of this build. The rear bumper looks killer too.

With my stock 56in springs, my ORD shackle flip moved my axle around an inch forward. But remember, when it flexes, as it compresses the axle will move backwards towards the rear wheelwell. So you shouldnt have any problems, and it does flex so much more than the factory shackle.

It's fairly level, I'll prob end up adding a bit to the back to account for the extra stuff and spare I plan on carrying, but level otherwise.
It was pushed 1-1.5" fwd...I installed some spring perches that were drilled to move the axle forward or back for that very reason.

your rig is nice man! good job!

Thanks man!

So, what color should I paint it? Thinking about a simple sand and paint since the clear is coming off, and I've got a few rust spots here and there.

Also been working on my doubler, and picked up a GM8 turbo for the 6.2...exciting winter surgery planned :)

Well started with the turbo... Got the oem manifold out w/o much trouble. Gotta find an S10 air conditioning housing to cut and replace the fullsize one so the turbo will fit.

I took a few pics, but gotta get them off the cell phone at some point.

Progress :)

Factory exhaust is out, evap housing on the floor.

Turbo manifold on w/2 bolts for mockup. For grins, I put the turbo on to see what it looked like...pretty awesome :)

Hopefully over the next month(s) more will get accomplished, the turbo completed and a doubler to go with it!

Well the project continues. I promise once im able to d/l some pics I'll get them posted up...

Got the oil setup in a good spot...for the supply I'm using the port just above the filter/ oil cooler lines. It's a 1/4 npt, got an elbow to connect up to my oil supply line that goes to the turbo. Using a 3/8 brake line that connects to the oem turbo feed line.

Need to order up some silicone elbows for the air, and think abut the crossover tube. I've got the factory one from a gmt400 which is close...so just need to do a bit of cutting/welding to get it just right.

I'm having a blast, a few hrs at a time :)

Brother, I wish I had nothing but time....but only a few hrs at a time I gotta pick how to attack each little part. With any luck, I'll at least be able to put together a decent write up for some looking to turbo a 6.2

Thanks for the push tho :)

pics I promised!

Got the cdr ports on the intake tapped for 1/2 npt plugs, and the IP is turned up 1/4 of a turn. Looks like the crossover needs a bit of work, it's just slightly larger than the driver side manifold. But I still have the pipe I removed so ill just cut some sections from that to get things lined up.

Also got my silicone hose, and an air filter. Trip to Lowes and now ive got some plumbing pipe to build an air intake with. Hopefully just a few weeks remain on this project!

Subscribed! Like what ya got going here! Where did ya get the new steering shaft? Was the h1s hard to get balanced? Also might want to consider putting on a high performance head gasket for that turbo. I've read that's the weak link. Keep up the nice updates and pics!

Thanks! I got the shaft from another member here. It does make a bit of a difference...

Headgaskets...not sure what I'm going to do. For now, I'm keeping it below 10psi. If/when these let go, I may get some thicker ones to bring the compression down a bit...or go with the 6.5 heads...or even build a 6.5. But with any luck that will be later rather than sooner!

I was going to run air soft bbs in the tires to balance, but for not I have nothing in them. I have heard that they balance out OK with that.

Today I cut up the 6.5 xover and tacked a bunch of pieces together. Ran out of time to fully weld it up. Using part of my factory exhaust, since the 6.2 and 6.5 are different sizes at the flange.

It's fun and frustrating at the same time...lol

Spring and summer is on its way, now is rush time it seems for everyone. Aint it fun

Im in the a similar boat, tore apart 2 205s today to make 1, tore up a 203 and got them both sorta ready for my doubler I am going to have machined here in a few days, then the long save up for new driveshafts. Hope to go wheeling soon. Still cant find a 400 to 203 bracket cheap though, they expensive as all get out.

This is true...I'll keep an eye out for you for that adapter. I have a doubler on the bench right now....I'm still on the fence about going with that or just staying with the 208...

But for now I think I'm far enough into this thing I need to get it running again lol. When are we going wheelin? :)

I'm hoping I can get a shake down run in May or so. After I get my doubler finished, my driveshafts built and hopefully toss on rear disks. Then I can save up for the 60, as I really probably need that with 7 thousand pounds and decent hp. :haha:

Main problem is a place to go, and the money to get there. Being laid off right now is really putting the hurting on all this, lately wheeling for me is crossing the deep ditch in my front yard and testing flex. Lol.

Whelp, she's running again. Got to enjoy replacing the heater core after I got it put together and then saw a leak where the top tube goes into the core. Oh we'll.

Need to square up a few things, but I'm just excited that it came to life after sitting for a while. Gonna try and run it for a while tomorrow and double check for leaks and to get the manifold warmed up.

More good times :)
