My 86 K5 build

Yay for progress! :D

It's just because you want to go wheeling with me...isn't it? :haha:

I am planning on taking most of the day tomorrow to get more done. I want to get everything else bolted on (TBI gas tank, exhaust, tcase, driveshafts, radiator, ect...) that way it's really just wiring after that. Getting closer and closer. I know there will be something that haults this thing firing up, probably with wiring, but I will figure it out as it comes. It would be really cool if I just hook everything up and then it goes "vroom" when I turn the key :D. But highly unlikely as my past has shown me

Actually I'd be happy to get some shop time but I burned a lot of "brownie" points so now I've got build up a surplus again. :D

Plus we're in that in between time where we're still waiting for the snow to accumulate for a snow run.

Well, made some real good progress today. Was able to get everything else major bolted back up....Exhaust, TBI fuel tank, tcase, driveshafts and all the fuel lines hooked up. It should really just be wiring and throw fluids back in her and see what happens when I turn the key.

Pic of it sitting waiting for wiring to get started

Also, my brother and I decided to tear down my 383 that I pulled out to see what was really going on in this motor (pic of block below, and ever since I owned this thing, there has been a slight tick on the passenger side that we thought might have been a lifter...). Well, after tearing into the motor, it turns out the guy who originally built this motor used a 2 bolt main motor

, freaking morons. Also, come to find out, the #6 piston has some major damage on the top because it was contacting the head. There are big chungs missing out of the piston and the head. Obviously someone didn't deck the heads correctly. Just a reminder to never trust what idiots on craigslist say about a "built" motor in a truck

. So this thing is really junk to us. We will probably keep the crank and rods and some of the other misc. crap, but everything else we will junk

Getting closer to being fuel injected though, pretty happy about that :D. And after figuring out about my 383, I'm very happy with my decision to ditch the 383 for this TBI350

I doubt there are more than two or three people on here with an engine that needs to be a four bolt main. Picture of the piston/head?

True, but with how easy it is to pick up a 4 bolt main (at least around here) for pretty cheap, why would you spend all that money on machine work on a 2 bolt main? To each their own I guess when it comes to building motors, but just seems really stupid to me.

I only had my phone with me when I took those two pics and the flash sucks. Next time I'm over there, I will take my camara to get a better pic.

This was a really mild 383 too. The heads, rockers, intake and all that were all bone stock. So like I said, I am happy with my decision to remove displacement for fuel injection :D.

Oh, you definitely made the right choice ditching the 383 for a 350 TBI. I'm not gonna lie, I think less of people who get fired up for 383's.

That being said, if you have a two bolt block, spending money to buy a four bolt is kind of silly. Especially if it is as mild of a build as the 383 you pulled out. People get to caught up in unnecessary stuff like 4 bolt blocks, and other such nonsense.

Just about one step behind you. I am at the point of just wiring right now. I was gonna get it done this last weekend, but decided to get hydro assist done on my bro's blazer (the exact same set up as mine). So hopefully this next weekend or the one after that it will fire up, we shall see. Glad to see you got yours running good

I hope you have a heated garage to work in.

Haha, no I don't. My dad's shop is nice, but that is the one thing it is missing. Whenever I build one (one day), that will be a must. This weekend might be shot just cause it's supposed to be bitter cold all week/weekend. So it might be next week I get everything going. But we will see how motivated I am come Saturday

It's hard to do even with a heated shop when it's this cold.

Just read through your entire build. I really like what you've done. I'm sure I will be using your hard earned research on my build eventually. Thanx for the motivation. Love the build. Keep it going.

Thanks dude. I like seeing that you brought you build back up. Keep it up, it's a good looking rig :waytogo:

Looking good! You've made a hell of a lot more progress than I have in the last few months.

Thanks. Yeah, I have been trying to get things done. The last couple weeks have slowed down just cause holidays and it being me and my wife's anniversary. But I am getting closer. Wiring is it and then whatever crap that happens that makes it not run right. Really close though. I have been selling off crap in our house that we never use (or never will use) to purchase some TrailWorthyFab recentered H1's with PVC inserts. I think I am only a few weeks out from ordering them :woot:. I am freaking excited to get those....some of the cooliest rims for a decent price on the market right now. When I order them, I will take lots of pics :D. Plus, there are some blazer parts under the tree right now, so pics of those will come soon too!!

Got some things for the K5 for Christmas.

Smittybuilt snatch block, 4" tree strap, and a bag to carry all my recovery stuff

Daystar winch isolator (in the second pic you can see how it doesn't sit perfect in my fairlead cause last time out wheeling I hit it pretty good and bent it. But it's all good, it still works as a winch weight too

)

And a DIY4x 14bff flat back diff cover. Once again....freaking beef as always

Hmmm, painted

And somewhat installed. Ran out of gasket crap and 90 weight, so just put it on for now until I get those to finish it up

Other than that, I may order up some TWF recentered H1 double beadlocks this week, and finish wiring on TBI motor. Hopefully in a couple weeks it will be running

I like that you didn't waste any time getting the diff cover installed! :D
