My 86 K5 build

Looks good man. I dig the red and black.

What did you pay for the wheels? Got a friend that wants beadlocks, hes looking at the TR aluminum ones, but I feel they are a waste of money...

Maybe if it would help I could ship my ALDL cable down to you.

Sick man!!!! Way sick! Love it.

Thank you!

They ended up being about $260 or so a rim (including rock rings welded on, PVC inserts, new valve stems, and new o rings...pretty much a new rim if you ask me). I like the TR ones, they are a good rim and are proven, but I think they are still way over priced. These rims were still about $100 or more less than TR's. Plus, with me having a 16.5 setup, this was the best and cheapest way to get a double beadlock. I am very happy with them and would tell anyone to look at TWF!!

I will let you know Scott. Thanks for the offer. If it comes to it I will contact you, but as for right now we have some ideas that we think might work. But like I said, I will take advise from anyone who has experience with TBI situations like this :waytogo:

I think the build thread here turned out better surprisingly.

Not sure what this is supposed to mean, but whatever

Edit: I think you are referring to this thread compared to my thread on pirate....and if that is the case, I have got that a couple times from people :)

No worries. I recognized your username from pirate after a little while

Been a little while since I updated this thing. Been working on things as I find time. Still been workin on wiring (so freaking sick of wiring :weapon10:) but close to being done. Ran into a few hickups here and there, but finally got it to idle and run pretty smooth the other weekend. Still a few more things to finish up and I will be back in business (the rig is at my dad's shop, so I am really only able to work on it over the weekends, kinda sucks, but oh well).

Meanwhile, sold some crap off and earned enough money to purchase some stuff :D

Spartan d60 front locker

And a couple things from DIY4x

That is kert's spare tire mount plate and a few web gussets. I have an idea of where I am going to mount my spare, nothing fancy, just simple and functional. That will probably happen once I get it running and back over to my house, hopefully in a few weeks.

Nice! You should be able to put that locker in without pulling the carrier. I have a lock right and those are similar to the spartian and I didn't pull the carrier to install it.

Yeah, that was my plan. Thats what is so nice with these lunchbox lockers, install is usually pretty quick and easy

It was a little bit warmer today, so found some time to work on the rig. Didn't get anymore wiring done, but did get the spartan installed

Drained fluid

Removed the roll pin (that was the hardest part of this whole install, other than the freaking removal and install of the roll pin, everything else was about 20 min). And remove the cross pin, the pull out all the spider gears and thrush washers

Spider gears removed

Then installed the springs/sleeves into the center drive plates (not sure if that is what they are called, but you get the point), and use the little pins to hold them in place while you install

Install the side gears, these just slid right in

Then install the center drive plates and align the teeth so everything matches up

Then install the new cross pin and roll pin (both supplied in the kit)

And all finished up :pimp:

All put back together with lube in there

Like I said, this was so freaking easy to install, it's not even funny. The only hard part was getting the roll pin in and out, but with the right size punch, it's pretty easy. And I have read a lot of threads of guys saying that you can't do this install with the carrier in the housing.....so this is proof that you can. I have 4.56 gears and the cross pin had just enough clearance of the ring gear. All in all, pretty freaking happy with this product!

Awesome build can't believe I never saw it before! Subscribed :waytogo:

Didn't have as much time to work on the rig as I wanted to this weekend, but did get a couple things done.

My back window on my k5 tailgate never really has worked (crappy electric window) and the gate wouldn't open unless I had the cover off and pulled the two rods together (tailgate handle was completely jacked). So decided to say screw it and just swap to a truck tailgate. My dad has an old plow truck that he said I could have the gate if I wanted it. Since my next move is to accumulate some tube for a cage, the top will probably come off for good after that. So since this would be a free project, other than $10 or so for some spray paint, decided to do it.

Tailgate painted

Installed. I'm not going to get into how to swap these, cause it's been done before (there is a link from nimak5 to a thread of how to do it a couple pages back)

Also got a little start to my spare tire mount. Purchased some half ton wheel studs and lug nuts from the parts store and mounted them in my spare tire plate

Perfect fit. More on this spare tire mount to come

:waytogo: Good looking unit you have sir!!!

Never thought I would see one so close to mine. Keep up the good work!

Those tail gate "straps" will drive you nuts rattling around. I was thinking about wrapping mine with tape or something.
