My 86 K5 build

Know this will take your build way back but by chance do you have any close up pics other then onces on here when you mounted your F250 shock towers from ORD?

Thanks!

No, I don't. It was really simple. My truck originally is an 86, so it came stock with the dual shock setup in the front that some of the later 80's K5's, Burbans, and some of the trucks got. I ended up removing the most forward pop rivets/shock mount from the frame and drilled new wholes in the shock towers to line up with those pop rivet holes and mounted it there, then just trimmed off the excess that was hanging below the frame.

i want to see some pitbull rockers mounted on this thing, when are yours suppose to arrive?

I do too...really badly. We talked with them a few weeks ago and they thought they were getting another big batch in...they were not able to tell us exactly when mine were coming...but they thought soon. Who knows...I'm at least hoping in the next month or so they will show up though. I'm not complaining too much since I got half off on brand new tires that I really wanted (even before I picked up the 44's), so I will continue to wait patiently :)

I like the Boggers....

I do too, and they are for sure staying around cause there are some local fun mud bog comps here that I think would be a good time...so I'll throw the boggers on when I do stuff like that, but I really like rocks, and the pitbulls will far outshine the boggers there!

Where did you buy at? We are starting to look right now (even went to a few showings). Maybe in a few months we can find something and get our stuff moved over. Really hoping I find something with a shop this time so I have somewhere to put all my crap. Even if there is no shop, if there is at least a place to build a shop later on, I'd be cool with that too!
Southwest of Rigby, 5 bed 3.5 bath, 2 acres, and a 30x40 insulated shop with two 9'x10' doors. Crap is getting expensive in that area so we jumped on this one the first day it popped up. Still way cheaper than Moab. I'll post pics to my build thread of the shop. I am way excited to have one finally. Hopefully you can find a good one over there with a shop already. Every other house here has one.

Try cutting the groves going across the lugs deeper and wider, it'll make the lugs more flexible. I like the fact you can get a good grip using big lugs by turning into the rock. From the looks of the rocks out there, their pretty smooth so there's not much to bit on. We have more little ledges and sharp outcroppings to grab a hold of + mud/clay/tree stumps/downed trees out east. .......Now if they would make some 44" sticky boggers. :D

Little update on some things...first off my wife and I finally found a house we wanted to buy up here in ID. We are really excited about it. Nice home on 2.5 acres and has a 3 bay 30x50 shop that is fully insulated with a functional wood burning stove, full 10 ft doors and 12 ft ceilings. Already hooked up with an outside air compressor and PVC pipe/hose ran into the shop with 3 separate hookups for air hose, 220v hookup, and the 3rd bay is separated off with a center wall.

Needless to say I'm ridiculously excited to actually have a shop to work on my stuff in. So we are in the process of moving over which will take a little while. I'll get my blazer and my 8.1 swapped V3500 moved over (I have a build thread on that truck too, some have already seen it), and start working on both again. I'm also buying a 1 owner 99 Dodge 2500 Cummins truck from a family friend...I couldn't pass up the price he wanted to sell it to me for. Needs a tranny rebuild, but I plan to do that and probably just drive it and use it to haul stuff too. Should be a good truck to have around for ridiculously cheap compared to any other modern diesel out there.

Anywho, here are some pics of the house/shop:

And the updates for the blazer entail that my titan/205 is getting close to ready to install into the truck. Since I didn't have the tools to bore out the input of the 27 spline case, I had to find someone to do that. Bowman transmission here in ID said he could do it for me, and offered (for a reasonable price) to put it all together for me too (since I've been so busy with the house stuff, and it was a reasonable price, I said sure). Picking it up tomorrow. So that will be something to start working on in the new shop.

As a recap, its a NWF Titan black box with the 34 spline input on the 205, along with the ORD 32 spline front output upgrade, flanges f/r, and twin stick shifters and it will be cable shifters all from J&B Fab. Really excited to get this thing in the truck

And the other thing that will go on the truck (thanks to Trump :D)

I have to pick up some new PVC's since I had to modify my current ones in my boggers, so I'll do that soon too. Hopefully some pics soon of these things getting installed

Are you still going to want to tow with an 8.1 now that you own a Cummins?

Martin

Yeah, I think I will. As everyone knows, the 2nd gen Cummins trucks with the little extended cab (though it does have the "quad-cab" doors on this truck), the back seat is literally a joke to seat anyone in back. And the fact that I have 3 boys 5 yrs. old and younger, that truck really won't be as ideal to bring the family with. But the deal he is offering me on that truck is just too good to pass up. So my thought is I'll use the Cummins primarily (maybe even DD the thing just cause I can) and tow with it when it's just me, or I'm bring 1 or 2 of my boys with me. But if I'm going to take the whole family wheeling/camping with me that requires towing, then I'll take the 8.1 V3500. This way I don't put any unnecessary miles on my V3500 and hopefully will mean it stays around for a VERY long time (as that's the truck I care most about for sure). I still need to get that 8.1 really rocking and paint the thing too. Then it will be a bitchin truck that if I wanted to I could take to some car shows (that's never really been my thing, but who knows) but I can also hook up ~10k lbs. to it and haul if I wanted/needed to.

Either way, the V3500 is paid for, and this Cummins truck is so cheap even after a tranny rebuild in it I won't owe anything on it either, and I could turn around and sell it for double what I would be into it if I wanted to.

I just need to start getting all my crap over to my new shop and get some things situated and then I'll start getting some stuff done. I did break down all my boggers yesterday off my h1's, picked up some replacement studs for my h1's as some of mine are crap, and I'll throw the pitbulls on them soon (hopefully within the next week). Then it will be installing the Titan/205 into the truck and I also have some replacement 52's I'm going to swap into the front of the K5 since my current ones are now bent a little bit.

Bowman is the guy who has a k5 on 54s right?

Yeah the white one

Makes sense. I was creepin on the gram.

Yeah, he had his blazer at his shop when we showed up and my boys immediately yelled out, "Dad look! It's a Top Truck Challenge Truck!!" Thought that was pretty funny. Was cool to check out his rig. My boys were surprised that find somebody with bigger tires than me, haha

I've had Chris do some transmissions for me. I like Chris.

The place looks nice did I miss whereabouts it's at?

Yeah, I may have him do the tranny work on the new dodge I'm picking up too...just depends on when/how I get it up here from CO.

The new house is in Emmett...I like that little town. We are excited to be there for sure

Sweet. I'm gonna be heading up your way August sometime to go camping with Josh and his family might just need to add in some time to stop by and say hello

I met with some of the jeep club guys here last night and it sounds like there are a bunch of guys with big ass tire rigs up your way. I guess there's a state run going on over there in the middle of june.
