My Build Thread - The stuff actually works

well then hows the performance ? blow cold at idle ect? looks great!

I drove it last weekend. It's cold enough, but no real fan force. The high fan setting on the K5 blows about what my DD (97 F150) blows at the middle low setting.

The blower box and vent box is leaking all around the firewall - (both sides of the firewall):mad::mad:.

Anyone know of any good insulation/gasket stuff for the blower and vent boxes against the firewall?

I was thinking of using the windshield rope stuff, but someone mentioned it seeps and may not keep the seal when it get's really hot.

Go to your local paint supply and pick up a seam sealer like what the factory used on your firewall, the drippy gooey stuff. A small tube is around 10 bucks or so. Another low buck is rooftar..ewwwww though

Sealed up the air box and vents. :thumb:

I actually used the silicone based windshield stuff for the air box. It comes in a 20' or so strip. It worked great.

Stinger Style Spare Tire

I built the tube carrier a few weeks back. My bender only bends 90 degrees. I realized AFTER I could have bent the two bends. It was tall enough that it would have gone right over the top of the bender. Oh, well.

I made all the tabs to secure the carrier. I made a 2" x 1" x 1/4" angle iron cross member to attach the hold downs.

I have to attach the cross member for spare itself. I am going to use 7" x 1/4" plate. I am going to mount a spindle to that. I have a broken outer axle that I will weld to the plate as well. I have an entire hub that I will use as the spare carrier mount. I'll have the entire hub, spare lockout and full bearings ready to go if I ever need them on the trail.

Hey, i know its an old post, but how well does that onboard air work" Will it run tools with two pumps and a 7 gallon tank? I have one of those costco pumps that i keep in my truck, never hooked it to a tank yet.

Also, are those hard wired in, with a remote power on/off?

I haven't plumbed it out yet. I built the stinger tire carrier because I wanted the tank in the back. The tank took more room than I wanted so I moved the tire. Both projects are halfway done.

I haven't done anything lately - too dang hot. My wife's anger and the outside temperature.

I'll get back to it next weekend. The output of the pumps isn't enough to run tools continuously. I suspect the air tank will allow for short operational bursts.

if you want to throw her for a loop, take all the kitchen chairs, some cleaners and rags and thoughroly clean each of them, then talk about changing the fabric to a warmer color...she should be so thrown off by it she'll forgett everything else:D

That's great....I'm sure I'd screw it up somehow in her mind. She wants help...just not always the help I offer.:D

Got a lot done over last weekend and this weekend.

Finished the tire mount

I changed the design of the way the tire attaches. I welded up four bolts and a center bolt that locks the tire to the stinger bar:

Bumper looks really good and I like your OBA setup. How does that work so far? Is it adequate for running tools or just filling up tires?

Thanks - The air system is just for airing tires.

Tools can be only be used for a couple of seconds then the tank needs time to refill - not really worth while.

I'm going to make the air hose like I saw on another post. Four air chucks on a valve and gauge. Air all four tires air up and down at the same time and get the same pressure on all four corners.

I thought it was pretty slick.

Dang it - I can't find the pic.

I'm still considering a York compressor rather than the two baby air compressors, but I think I'm out of room. I'm not sure how to rig up the compressor mounting without messing anything up.

I picked up a cheap compressor from harbor freight, they have a website, it fills up my 3 gallon tank just fine and produces enough psi.

Spent the best part of the last three days replacing the stock intake with an Edelbrock Performer, new valve covers and gaskets, new belts, and 94 amp alternator. Major PITA.

Got the thing back together tonight and fired it up. :woot:

It fired up, ran great and then

SON.....Of.......A........BEOTCH!!!!!!!!

White? (It was dark outside) smoke coming out of the driver's side exhaust.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I had a sneaky feeling about the driver's side gasket when I was bolting it up. I should have trusted my gut and rechecked it.

I should be able to pull the intake tomorrow. At least I don't have to swap everything over.
