My Build UPDATE---lots of pictures--2/1/2010

motor runs awesome! Branndon did a great job with the build. So it'll be going in the blazer as is. The only thing that I want to change is put headers on it.

I looked at the dates of the last post--------that's just sad:haha:

Well this weekend was a productive one. The first productive wrenching weekend in 2 years.:hammer: Thought about just pulling the gears and lockers and throwing them into my axles but figured just swapping the whole axle itself would be easier and save time.............I was wrong.

It probably wouldn't have been to bad if I had had another body to help with the moving. I didn't and ran into a ton of problems. The biggest was both trucks fell off the jacks stands while swapping the front axles. I've never lost a truck in my life but this just wasn't my lucky weekend. Luckly the air jack caught the Jimmy and My blue K5's bumper caught the project K5. Still a pain in the butt to deal with alone but oh well atleast they didn't fall all the way onto the ground. So in 2 days I got the front and rear axles swapped or technically I got 2 axles in, both sets of gears setup and both lockers setup. That sounds better so that's what I'm going with.

anyways just a couple pictures of the progress nothing much though.

I'm pretty sure my neighbors think I'm running some kind of scrap yard.

The Jimmy with it's new set of axles and SWEET new tires:lol:

Now I just realized that I didn't take a picture of the K5. Oh well that will come tomorrow i guess.

Nothing really wrong with it. I'm just partial to the Blazer over Jimmy's. Also as weird as it sounds I don't want a full convertible--atleast not yet. I like the idea of having a little something over my head, shade(a little) and some added protection(again even if its a little)

Hey Devin, If you ever need a hand, just let me know. If I'm not busy I would be happy to help.

Ok what the hell!!

I've been fighting with 1................yes just 1 tire for 40 minutes. How the heck do you get the inner plastic part of a double beadlocks out of the tire. I've tried soap, pry bars, etc... and nothing I'm giving up for the night

throttleissues may have to wait a couple more days for the tires:doah::haha::haha:

No rush on the tires, but you'll have a rig ready for the Panamint trip in Oct., right?:D OK, maybe the Mojave Rd. trip in Nov? Just askin', not pushin'.:wink1:

I don't know if October is an option. maybe late October. progress is slow especially it seems like everyone is busy rihgt now so I'm doing most the work alone.:doah: and then I seem to only be able to get any real work done on weekends.

I'm shooting for having it done by the first or second week in November. I want to take it out once and find any bugs because I want to try and make Truckhaven for thanksgiving.

I'm finally in to take a break for lunch. I've been in the driveway since 8 this morning.......

and in 5 hours I've managed to get the tranny and double out. would have been out an hour ago but I kinda forgot about those 3 little bolts on the flywheel. I'm still not sure how I managed that but nothing's bent or broke and it came out relatively easy.

You must be a sally. I do those in about 10 minutes From start to finish . I have PVC Runflats also . :)

Trick is a 2.5-3" Wide ratchet strap. You go all the way around the Insert. And clamp the 2 ends together. Tighten er' down until it egg's . Then pull it out. It is easy. If you need more help I will dismount a tire , and show you :) Post on youtube or whatnot.

Ok so after a couple weekends I've finally made some big progress. First I finally got the stupid beadlock inserts out. Once I got it it went semi easy.

Then I got the big old caddy out of the Jimmy. Even when you double check the wiring that's disconnected you always seem to miss one. I completely forgot about the neg battery cable going to the started:doah:. I'm glad I had the rollers and they were flat or it wouldn't have cleared.

Now I had thought that Jimmy and Blazer frames were the same, but I guess not. As I tried to move the motor mounts from the Jimmy to the Blazer, there was a problem. First I had to remove the factory crossmember under the engine, and had to cut out the stock motor mounts. When I went to put in the custom mounts from the Jimmy the pass side was about 4in too tall. It took a few nights of cutting, welding, and grinding but I made some new mounts and now that sucker sits in there perfect. I also got a little hot under the collar. Apparently the torch was spitting out some hot chunks of 1/2" plate. As I felt my leg getting really hot I looked and saw my pant leg had decided to catch some of the spatter and then catch fire, only to burn most the hair off my leg from my ankle to my knee:haha::haha:

And just to show after 3 years there's a motor sitting between the frame rails of the blazer on its own mounts.:D:D:D:D

Umm, I don't think there is a difference between blazer's and jimmy's frames as much there is a slight difference in the frames as to where the frames (plants) where made. There could be difference in two blazers' frames of the same year because the two blazer where made in two diffent plants. I have noticed slight differene in frames. The front mount for the sway bar for example, but I don't think these difference are your problems. It looks like the motor is mounted way too far forward.

Sorry for my bad grammar and spelling. I'm on my nephew's computer, and I can't get MS word to work on it.

Good to see some progress on this thing! I'm still in Iraq just as a stated in my post over a year ago. HAHA! Not to much longer though.

and here is how you get a doubler and tranny in when your jacks don't go high enough and you're by yourself.
