My Build UPDATE---lots of pictures--2/1/2010

I haven't updated in a while. This was all done over a couple weeks not just the last couple days.

First I guess was kinda a big set back. I fired it up the other night after it's been sitting awhile and got ALOT of smoke. I figured it was from sitting but it got worse and worse. Ended up pulling the valve covers and find this...A broken rocker.

Everything else seemed ok. The pushrod was not bent at all. Then I went to slid the rod back in and it almost fell into the engine. So off came the manifold:doah: I found the lifter sitting in the valley. It either was the cause of the broken rocker or happened when the rocker broke. But again juts slid it back in. It was fine, not collapsed at all it just popped out. Anyways ordered an awesome new set of rockers from the Cad500 guys. These things are incredible. and I just now realized I didn't take a picture of them before they went in...oops. So I got the whole motor mess straightened out and it fired right up again and runs great!:D

First Painted the body with a good starting off point then started to tape off the cage to paint the interior

Then I gotta thank CragRat for the idea on the final paint. It turned out pretty cool looking. Basically went for the Old WWII airplane look with the panels on the outside and the drab green inside

Got the seats and belts all in. I really want to change the passenger seat to the pin design now. It was a MAJOR pain in the ass to get the bolts in. The drivers side went right in

tried to get a shot of the lights on but they came out a little funny. I know I'm missing a rock light in the pass fenderwell, I found out they don't bounce on concrete :haha: I've got a new one ready to go in.

damm devin, u got a beast on your hands!! wow, im going to need to check it out some time soon. i got your pm, i'll hit u up in a bit.

well it looks like your rear locker is working quite well.:waytogo:

your K5 came out really nice. i bet it was awesome to take it out of the driveway under its own power. that paint job is cool. oh, and i'm especially jealous of your gauge cluster panel. it looks very functional.

i see your turn signal connector hanging out of the steering column. do you still have to wire up the rest of the body?

looks awesome mang!

digging the fighter plane look...

thanks guys.

the truck is by no means finished. I still have a bunch of little stuff to do on it. The connector hanging was just that, it was just hanging because it hadn't been cut out yet. All the wiring is done except for a backup light and cab light. The last major thing I need to do is shocks. But that'll be next week. Taking out to Hungry Valley tomorrow to test it and measure for shocks. Probably be out there around 10:30 if anybody local wants to come by and say hi.

but yeah it's atleast running and semi functional. I'll know after tomorrow what needs fixing.

Very cool theme going on with the paint....I've always dug the riveted panel look.

VERY cool paintjob! digging the whole build, especially the center console! that's a painless wiring switch panel with the ignition switch, correct?

kudos!:D keep it up!

B A D....A S S!!!! Rig looks killer Devin. How the hell have you been able to make so much progress!! You have someone helping you or all on your own? Awesome for you man, I'm jealous!!!! Paint is bitchen. Nice touch with the drab interior too.

the switch panel is from 12volt guy.

I honestly don't know how I got it to this point. I've had people helping throughout the build. And as I said earlier CragRat built the whole cage and did all the tube work. but other than that it's been long nights and weekends in the driveway. I've still got a long way to go but after yesterday(pics to come) I'm ready to just dive back into it and get it finished.

got the first test run in yesterday. The day wasn't without some big problems but I'd still call it a successful first day. Headed up to Hungry Valley with a few other Axle Snapper members. This was also the first time I've ever had the truck on the trailer behind the dually for any long period of time. And for the locals it wasn't exactly flying up the grapevine but it cruised right along and never got above 210 degrees.

Got into Hungry Valley, unloaded and did a few laps around the staging area. Went over to the stairs to measure for shocks and found the first problem. When leaning towards the pass side tranny fluid pours out of the filler tube seal on the case. That should be an easy fix. Went through the small rock course fairly easy. It made it most the way up the big rock course before I had to bail out the side. It just wasn't gonna go any further without breaking something. I didn't want to break anything the first trip out. Then the major problem of the started I lost all brakes. The master cylinder was totally out so, we filled it up and went to bleed the brakes and broke the bleeder screw off one of the front calipers. From there I just kinda dealt with it the rest of the day. kept filling the master and it finally got enough pedal back where I could atleast drive around a little more. I think I've found the problem of the brakes but I'll find out for sure today or tomorrow. And then at the end of the day I was leaking power steering fluid pretty bad out of the steering box. Again I think it's just a seal problem. Anyways evn with all that I still think it was a successful test.

the tires finally hit the dirt after almost 5 years to the day

Are you going to put anything resembling a grill back in it?

no grill. I'm trying not to put anything attached to the body simply for the fact I don't see it being on there very long. There's a really cool buggy waiting to be uncovered:D
