My Condensed 5.3 Swap Thread. LSX LQ4 LM7 Vortec Gen III

That explains that code.

How many RPM was that video? You said 40% throttle? Is there a Park/Neutral wire hooked up? Can you see in data if it says P/N? What I'm getting at is the Rev Limit for Park/Neutral was 3450 RPM and it sounded like it was hitting a rev limit...

Since a 5.3L Manual never existed it still has that in the engine part, I increased it in a new file to same as other Rev limits of 6000 RPM.

Upon further investigation it has nothing to do with O2 sensor wiring. It would run a little off and take some time and drive for BLM learn to take place. The data you show is not even warmed up. You may have needed a little more time? Or we have a bad PCM?

I ran that tune file in a truck today and it ran fine except the auto trans was not very happy with a manual trans segment...

I think what we will have to do is have me send you bothccomputers and have you mesh them together.

It starts doing the cut out around 1700rpm or so. I don't have the park neutral hooked up cause my harness didn't have pig tails for it. I let it warm up a decent amount and took it up and down the street. As soon as you give it anything more then say 20% throttle it cuts out even at the low rpms.

Well that just sucks, I wanted a better ending. Either way we will get it done, I'm out of PCMs. Had 6 awhile ago waiting for returns...

Its all good! Im curious to see what you see when you get the both to compare side by side. I think i can fit them both in the box you sent me the one in. I'll send them out tomorrow. Same address as the "from" on the box? Sorry i havent called, its been a crazy go go go all day yesterday and today.

Yup!

Since I ran your calibration in another truck I think it was a bad PCM... :doah:

Ok, so i dropped off both the ECMs at the post office today. So i guess do with them as you please. I would guess for fun you might try running them both in your test truck and see how it goes? At the least its probably a good idea to save the complete calibrations of my current computer in case there is something specific to the 2000 F body tune that we arent aware of. Im guessing the best way of going about it is to pretty much leav my computers perimeters alone but carry over the spark and fuel maps from the 5.3 to the f body ecm? Take a look at my f body ecm and just see what it looks like i guess. At the same time, the only other issue that has been a "problem" for me is the idle is set to high on the f body ecm. It idles at like 750-800 which is too much when its in drive with my stock converter. I guess 650-700 would be more right? I dont know what in gear idle is set to on a stock 5.3. Also, with the f body computer, it has an emissions code still coming up and a skip shift solenoid code coming up.

So, the f body ecm, runs the truck really well but the issues are, High idle, Over fueling(Fuel trim drops about 20% in closed loop) Over fueling at WOT(puts out the slightest bit of black smoke. Not surprising considering it thinks its a bigger motor than it is), Doesnt see the VSS(no pig tails in f body harness so if you have a few that you could send would be awesome!) And i think thats it. For the most part it runs well enough to where you would never know anything is wrong with it to the untrained motorist.

Im sure i dont need to mention it but i will anyway, i will need the ecm back asap. Reason being is as soon as i can get the ecm back and in the truck its going back to maaco for a repaint.

Thanks again!

I assumed you had a truck harness and PCM with a truck engine. My bad...

I figured out why that calibration runs in a truck and not your F body ! Wiring is differant!

First time I've done a conglomeration of parts like this.

Anyway, know what to do now and it will be even more clear when I read your PCM to know exactly what it is.

:woot:

Looks like the package should be to you tomorrow!

Excellent! Im curious to see what you found and what you did! And im even more curious to try it out!

I wish I had an F body to try it. There is no 5.3L for the F body harness, I had to build the complete file from a 5.7L Manual Camaro/Trans Am (your PCM was a 1999 5.7L Trans Am Auto) and install all the settings from a 5.3L engine then turn off the stuff as you needed.

It's newer 2002 Operating System, all tourque managment is off, Lean Cruise is on but conservitive.

Groovey. Well we'll see how it goes! Thanks again man! Now, just out of curiousty, did you save a copy of the file that came from my PCM in case there is something all together strange and different going on?

Hey you don't have any extra pcm end pig tails you could send do you? I'm short a couple. With this tune is there any need to hook up park/neutral switch? Or is it not needed with the manual trans tune?

Speaking of sending it back I should PayPal you some money for the return shipping cost!

Edit: sent funds.

Yes, no, yes, no, yes, what color, no yes and thank you! :haha:

Seriously... what color wires do you need?

I have no idea how you got an F body 5.7L harness to work on a 5.3L truck motor... OK it can be done but there are changes needed, then run on 5.7L auto cal? I literally had to change 6000 settings to make a 5.7L manual cal into a 5.3L manual cal. It took hours. Had a freind look at it and could not find anything wrong. If I'd have known what a conglomeration of parts this was I would have only done this hands on. Just to much to go wrong by mail. But it has been a good learning experiance for me as well.

Park wire no.

You were not happy with low idle so it's up to 625 from stock of 550. Manual was to high for auto trans.

It's also set for one auxillary electric fan if you add one.

The first PCM I sent you will not run in my test truck, cal is identical to one I flashed into it and did run, so PCM was bad.

I'm going to bed...

Im really sorry for the trouble this has caused you! But i really do truly appreciate it! As far as what i need for wires, I just need a foot or two to plug in to the VSS so the computer can start reading speed! I have an electric speedo so (with a little refresher research) i jut need to splice the wires from the speedo (or from the drac module... I cant remember at the moment...) into the two pig tails i (hopefully) get from you to get the computer to see the vss. My harness doesnt have anything in those pin locations so i have been running without vss this whole time. I dont really care about color for the pigtails. I will know what they are for.

I know the guy i got the whole shebang from had to change the injector plugs from car style to truck style. And a few other things that i cant remember right now...

This whole thing has been a learning experience for me too! I have learned enough to make my next swap a breeze!

I think 625 idle rpm should be perfect. With the 550 and no park/neutral it felt like it was getting too close to stalling when putting it in gear. And thanks for the electric fan setup! I will also need a pig tail for that! :haha:

Sucks about the bad pcm. Sleep tight! Thanks again!

I like doing this stuff so no burden.

All the pigtails I have are about a foot, but I can send you enough to do VSS and fan. It's fine to add wire, just do solder joints and shrink wrap, no butt connectors!
