My Front Dana 70 Build

I can't say for certain, but all of the ARB's I have looked at, are complete carrier assemblies. Check with ARB for certain, but that is all that I have seen.

The ignorance around this place is unreal sometimes.

ARB's are all full carrier replacements.

If I go with an ARB in the D70, will I still need a carrier?

Also; With the exception of the carrier bearing caps and ring and pinion, are bearings and seals the only thing I need for the pumpkin?

You don't have carrier bearing caps for the center section?

And ARB's are full replacement carriers

I agree this thread got a little out of hand as it is all about Clem and his D70 front axle.

So, why not everyone who has a hard-on over 9" axles step back, pour yourself a nice cup of STFU and get back to the topic at hand. Yeah, stop before you say something and remember this thread is about a D70 front axle. :wink1:

Apparently you guys skipped over the part where I said ARB's are full carrier replacements. Sorry, I'll keep my attitude and my knowledge to myself from now on.

I guess I didn't expect a reply to that portion. However, people have failed to notice that the assholes who have hard-ons for 9's are the ones feeding you the info that you're requesting. Maybe I/we are intelligent assholes who don't like bad info being spread...

Ive kept my mouth shut, but the 9" only came up as a suggestion for amount of money spent/ what your actually gonna get. A bunch of ignorant bs was spewed about the 9", and actual facts were put out there. A few of you members are being real hard headed.

It was a suggestion, and everything else was a result of trying to clear up the "Its so much weaker BS" The 9" is stronger whether you want to believe it or not... and its high pinion. If your building it yourself, it could be done for a pretty similar price to what your gonna spend on that 70. Thats why it even cam up in the first place. Mikey laid out cold hard facts as to why the axle is stronger yet people still wont listen.

If you are set on running a 70, thats fine. To each his own. But when BS is spewed, it should be cleared up, regardless of the original intent of the thread. People will see said BS and continue to spew it and the problem only exacerbates.

Clem, as for being condescending, is it any different then when you feel your right and make a comment about pinko-liberal blah-blah-blah?

I've always wanted a D70 front, this could've been such good thread...

I think if others want to "preach" about the hi9, then they should pony up their own fuucking money and buy them for their own rigs. I don't need anyone to shove info about something I don't want down my throat. I'm in this thread to follow Clem and his buildup as I have pondered about doing the same thing he is in order to get a D70 front axle.

This thread has gone straight to the crapper. I'd like everyone to focus on a build up here. Clem, in no way shape or form, ever asked for any opinions about any other axle but the one at hand. I'm not going back up to reread the posts but whoever brought up the subject of the 9" axle should have left it alone. If the 9" axle wants to be a topic of conversation, open up another damn thread. But for the time being, let Clem bask in his glory.

I officially hate all axles and the garage!:haha: Back to the lounge for me! You guys wipe your feet off before you come back.:D

When I weld in a shim wide enough for the 2.5 inch springs, would it be O.K. to put the U-bolt around axle tube?
I'd say it'd be ok because most of the shim contact pattern will be on the perch with maybe a 1/4" overhanging it. You should be just fine with a shim.

Or should I build up the area where it will wrap around?
No, leave it alone, read my reply above.
Those are my answers and I'm sticking with them.

Amen, I'm just a noob trying to learn and I think it took half the pages of this thread so far to get some answers about his perch and welding on it:D. Looking forward to the build of your D70:D:bow:

I'm going to W.A.G. and say if it did have 2 inch springs, it must have had a 12 or 15 leaf spring pack.

It depends on how thick the leaves are too.

Superduty fronts are only two leaves but each leaf is like 5/8" thick! They are 3" wide though
