Housing cleaned up

Pressed in new seals with a piece of allthread and race drivers

All done pretty easy but wish I used 1/2" allthread.

Pulled off the pinion bearing and when I started to press it on the new pinion this happened. New one on the way

Guess itll be another couple days before I get back at it.

Well this beauty showed up today with the bearings. I gotta say this is the cats meow, made pulling the bearings off so easy and didnt damage anything. Highly recommend getting one if a gear swap is in your future. (Yes one if my new kittens photobombed the pic lol)

Took a whole minute to pull off the bearing.

Moved .010 shim from one side to the other and got .008 back lash. Paint the ring to check gear pattern

Coast side (I think). Looks good to me

Drive side. Looks good again

This was my setup to press on the outer pinion bearing to check preload.

Everything checked out within specs so I put the cover on and considered the r&p swap done. Tomorrow I'll tackle the king pins and possibly throw the axle back in the truck

Who makes the bearing puller?

Started to remove the upper king pins. Found a little trick to make getting them off very easy. Simply cut a hole in a piece of plate, weld it on then smack it off.

Plate

Hole layout

Hole cut with torch

Fits

Let my son weld it on

Ready to be knocked off

Literally it was that easy to get off.

Now for the lower bearing races and dust caps removal.

I did one side and my boy did the other. Just used a long punch to drive them out

Couple smacks and the races came out. Ready for the new races to be installed

New races installed. One side was easy the other need some heat to get right

Time to put the axle back under the truck

We hung the axle with small ratchet straps to get the ubolts installed.

I forget to get a few pictures but we torqued the ubolts, cleaned the knuckles, tapped and installed new limiting bolts in the knuckles, torqued the upper king pin with a 3/4" drive ratchet w/ 4' pipe, installed new bearings and seals on the lower assembly.

Now I'm clamping the spring down. As per instructions even thou this side didnt need it but the other did.

Slid the axles in to prevent any cridders from going in there and making a home.

Done for the day time to eat and enjoy Easter with the family.

This was a list of stuff to do I made a few months ago. Obviously I've done more than what's on the list but I've always thought that making a list gives me more drive to get things done. Hopefully within the next month I'll have it on the road without the paint and interior work I wanna do. Really just waiting for rear disc brake kit w/ parking brake to show up. Everything else is just comedic stuff that's not all that important to me.

Did alittle prep work last night. Clean the hubs, bearings, spindle and pretty much everything else that's needs to go back on. Plus packed the bearings with new grease and installed the seals.

Only had a few minutes tonight plus lack of motivation and rain = only putting together one side somewhat. Found another thing wrong, but it's a easy fix. The bolt that's in the caliper should be round not hex head so I had to source them on Ebay no biggie.

That's it for today

Put the other side together and put some paint it. No more blue lol

My helper passed out

Cleaned up the shock mounts that i cut off

New brake bolts showed up

Installed

Ready to put the tires back on. But I'm gonna wait until I bleed the brakes.

Took apart the old tie rod to get the adjustment sleeve and steering stabilizers

New tie rod ends and clamps for the stabilizer

Tie rod coupler. Didnt come off easy that's for sure lol

Got it off and that dam blue paint too

Loaded it up with antiseeze so next time it has to move it will easily

Installed. I'm not sure if the rod is on backwards or not. But it's on the same way I took it off but I'll research it. Pretty sure it doesn't matter with a aftermarket stabilizer

Took a picture of how the stabilizer was put together

Just about all the bushings fell apart and all the shocks are shot. So I'll be getting a new stabilizer setup. Just not sure if i wanna go back with a quad setup or dual.

Seems like 2 steps forward and 1 step back. On a side note just got a email about the rear disc kit w/ parking brake that said it finally on it's way. I purchased these months ago.

Just like I thought. The tie rod is on backwards. And there some sort of mount missing on the housing for the factory stabilizer. Not sure if I’m gonna flip it around or not. Guess that depends on whatever stabilizer kit I get and how it mounts.
