My full conversion

Production blocks and heads either say “hi perf pass” or “truck”, sadly it doesn’t mean anything. All the passenger car and light duty truck stuff (standard deck height) says hi perf pass, the commercial level engines (tall deck) say truck - these have 4 ring pistons and a taller block deck height.

The head casting numbers will be between the valve springs.
Oh ok different than sbc then. I’ll pull the valvecover to see

Heres what I have. They any good?

360 heads are a later model lower flowing casting commonly referred to as “peanut ports”. They’re not a great casting for a performance motor, they are spent at 4k rpm. If it’s just a low end motor then you could be ok, just depends on the final build specs.

Put some work in today. Pulled the small block.

Yanked off the hood again.

Had to modify my lifting setup to clear the radiator.

Hooked up ready to pull

Worked like a charm

Pushed the truck back to let down the motor

After dragging the small block outta the way. We drifted the big block into position to hoist it up after doing a few things. First soaked the cylinders with some marvel oil.

Next we sealed the oil pan, added zinc, added oil and primed the oil pump for 10 minutes or so. Then turned the motor by hand while priming the oil.

Dropped in the distributor and before calling it a night.

Few more thing I'm gonna mess with before dropping it in tomorrow

Back at today. Shes ready to drop in

Just enough clearance

Fits perfect

And then this happened. I didnt switch flywheels. One has 2 different hole patterns, and of course I didnt realise until after the motor was all bolted up.

Got the flywheels swapped out and motor back in place only to find out the headers on the passenger side dont work. They hit the shackle, frame and torque rod from the transfer case. I'm guessing the difference in a 1 ton frame allowed these to fit on that truck. So I gotta buy new headers

Another issue I had was with the power steering pump. The one on the BB has 3 hoses and the other had 2 hoses. After some research and help from the Facebook guys I used the BB pump and capped off one of the hoses.

Pretty much ready to run now. Just need plugs, wires and the headers to show up.

Had these laying around. Got them from the crew cab. Figured I'd put them on while I'm waiting for parts.

Before

And after

I kinda like them hidden but not sure yet. So I'll leave them as they are before cutting anything

Headers came in yesterday. And the box looked like I'd be missing something but everything was there.

Happy to see the passenger side fit perfectly

Drivers side

Oh so close to fitting perfect to my exhaust system I made. Gonna have to rework the pipes

Got some new plugs and wires

Plugs weren't a issue getting to. Thought they would be.

Plugs and wires installed. Went with straight wires this time instead of routing them under the headers. I like under the headers better but there just wasnt enough room with these headers to do that.

All done.

After a few cranks and back fires I realized the distributor was 180 out. Flipped it around and BAM she fired right up. So happy it runs. I'm done for this weekend got a softball tournament

Fixed the exhaust the other day. Photobucket wouldnt let me post pictures for some reason

The old setup

Cut off the front sections and added 3" to each

After a test fit, tacked it all back together

Painted it again, this time painted everything instead of what I could only see

Drivers side

Passengers side

Everything fits perfect. Sounds awesome. If I can figure out how to post a video I'll post the start up.

Replaced the belts that were missing/rotten and noticed one of them wasnt sitting right. And that's because one alternator has a 5 rib and the other a 6 rib. So a quick swap, topped of all the fluids, set timing, adjusted the carb and set idle speed.

Took her for a spin, runs perfect and plenty of power . Then took the family for a quick spin. Heres a couple videos

After all the excitement of the truck running great. I told my son to jump in there and take it for a spin. I'm not sure who is more excited about him drinking it, me or him lol

Guess I'll start buttoning up some of the body work and other odds and ends next

It's been a while since last time messing with my truck. Since then it sprouted a leak in the radiator. So bought a new one with Hope's itll be a upgrade from what I had

Gotta love when the shipping is faster than expected

Aluminum 3 core

Thermostat kit with relay

Dual electric fans

Got off my butt and installed the radiator yesterday

Cleaned up some of the wiring with black wire loom and tape. I wanted to remove all the extra harness plugs and wires. But eventually I'd like to add back the AC stuff

And some pictures of the radiator and the custom overflow bottle lol. That'll be getting replaced eventually

Friday night started to sand the truck to prep for some sort if paint or liner.

Removed the trim

And as always I find something to fix .

Was gonna cut it out but couldn't source a piece to put back so I'm gonna try my luck at some bondo.

Today more prep work.

Took off the bumpers

More sanding

The truck had several dents that I was just gonna paint over but since my son was helping me, I cant half ass it lol. Plus I need to practice on my truck so when we do his itll be nice. So I used a inside bearing puller that I took apart and pulled out dents one by one

Pictures dont do it justice, easily 19 times nicer.

Welded up the holes fir the trim.

Applied some bondo for the first time

My boy sanding

Still prepping. Pulled all the other vehicles outta the carport. Now theres plenty of room to work

Prepping the hood. We totally forgot about it. It was hiding in the corner

Covering up the tires

All ready for primer

Tomorrow we'll spray it. Wish me luck. First time doing that too.
