did you sell the axles? i love that exo-cage. i like the way it protects everything and also i love the way it ties into the ''bed''(looks like you put alot of thought into it), i'd like to see it from every angle you have of it...i may build 1 identical or real close...i like it THAT much!(you didn't happen to draw up blueprints or saved a CAD print of it, did you?)

i noticed some1 made the comment that it was pipe, are we talking about sch40 or sch20 carbon steel pipe? if so, no wonder you breaking 1 ton stuff, did you ever weigh it? if thats sch40 pipe, it would of weighed in like a tank, but you wasn't going to hurt it! i bet if someone was to fab that up w/ 1 3/4'' .134 wall dom it wouldn't tear up 1 ton axles....not nearly as bad anyway.

what diameter pipe is it? did you use weld on bends & grind the weld down smooth to make your curves or did you bend sch40 or sch20 pipe? what did you use to bend that heavy of pipe? sch 40 pipe prolly has a heavy enough wall, you could bend it w/1 of those bottle jack benders, they call ''kinkers'' w/o it kinking. if you could get pins that would hold up. sch20 prolly not heavy enuff not to kink, its only 1/8''(.125) wall. sch40 is 1/4'' wall.(.250) that would be HEAVY!

I sold the body, frame, exo, bed, suspension, and motor as a whole and kept the rest. The funny thing is its still at the shop, dude who bought it put one tons under it and is waiting on a tranny. So it'll still be around

Everything is 1.5" sch. 40 pipe, outside diameter is 1.9 something, so 2". A 21 ft stick of 2" .120 wall DOM is 14lbs lighter than a 21 ft stick of 1.5" sch 40. So the weigh thing isn't a big deal in my mind.
We bend all of our stuff with a northern tool pipe bender, once you figure it out it works good.
I'll get more pics up in a bit

Did you use the northern tool bender to bend up your buggy?

I would feel safer with 2" poop pipe over 1 5/8 DOM. A 2" die for a pro tools is like 300 and I can get the poop pipe bender for 150. I definitely am looking forward to see how you do it.

I could probably afford to do a full cage then

I guess I could buy the pipe at lowes, my local metal supplier is expensive. Lowes probably isn't the best quality though, but it's cheap and better than no cage.

Yep, same bender, the buggy is 1.25" sch 40 so the od is 1.75".

I get all of mine from a metal supplier, I don't know what Lowes carries. Becareful because most of the "cheap" pipe is junk.

Dude, that was a cool rig, but now that your building again....keep us posted if you can.

Thansk.

How well do you think the harbor freight one would work? Thats the only place local around me.

Does it kink it at all?

I think I may buy all the stuff tomorrow and try it.

Thanks, If no one cares I'll try to keep you guys updated on the new build. It has a couple chevy parts on it.

I'm pretty sure it's the same. The pipe kinks only if you have the rollers too far in or the die gets worn out. If your using 1.5" sch 40 put the rollers on the forth holes out from the middle. Same with 1.25" but if you need a 90 your going to have to move the rollers in a hole. The tighter the die and the further out the rollers are, the better the bend.

Just practice on a couple pieces, you'll pick it up quick.

thats awesome.. how do you think that harbor frieght bender works on HREW? or even DOM? just out of curiousity.

We couldn't get it to work, the dies are not the right size. The DOM is too soft for this style of bender. It would dimple the DOM real bad. We never spent much time messing with it.

Yea that's a burb, what's left of it anyways.

OK I'll keep you guys updated
