My Junkyard build......York mount made

Thanks, that gives me a reference for when I rebuild my leaf packs.

Started the clean up process on my TPI tonight. Contacted a local guy who airbrushes and I am going to get it painted like this. Not his actual work but He showed my pictures of his work and it is as good if not better. If you have any work you want done let me know because his prices are very reasonable.

Ready for paint. Used the soda blaster cabinet due to soft metal then followed up with a very light abrassive wheel to remove any blemishes.

Front clip tilt

So I mocked my idea for my tilt. What do you guys think? Do you think it will be strong enough where I plan on attaching it? I will beef up the core support in the areas that I think need to be. Any thoughts as to whether you think it will be too much weight or ??????

Spoolinaround stopped by the house and we (he) decided that it would be wise to weld from the top of the tubing up to the body. Then bolt the bottom of the tubing to the frame rail and front rad support. This way I can still remove the front clip in the future if need be. I used 1/2"x3" bar that is going to be welded to the bottom of the core support, then gusseted. I used 1 1/2"x3" box that is going to be bolted to the b52 where the rad support bushing goes. The b52 sits about 1/2" lower than the top of the frame so I had to add a 1/2" piece of flat to make up the difference.

Got the hinge welded in and the fenders cut today. Used a sawsall. Cut through it like it was made of air.

Looking great so far dude, love the tilt front end, I just may have to do that

I think it's a great idea. It's looks simple.Add some small gas shocks or a limiting straps
So, are you gonna some kind of tapered alinement pin on the other side?
Or make some bracket to use the hood latchs from a c-4 corvette.:waytogo:

Because of where I cut the fenders my hood is going to stick out passed where I made the cut. I cut the fenders at location so that I can use the factory saftey hood pins that are located at the top of the firewall just below the windshield as locking pins. I plan on lengthening the pins so that they come out the top of my hood. I plan on runnin' a spring type tether like those used on Semi's. They have a cable inside the spring that acts like a limiting strap.

So you'll mate the hood and fenders together with some kind of frame I assume. Have you thought about dimple diaing everywhere to lighten the whole thing up?
The radiator will stand alone too?

Im just gonna weld the hood closed and that should take care of the side to side movement of each fender independently. Yes the rad will stand alone. Im sure Ill have to run 1-2 cross supports from the firewall to stabilize it. Havent thought that far ahead yet lol. I never have been able to that. I have no vision about the process, just visions of what Id like to do. Its actually not that heavy. I piced out a set of hinges then went a size bigger...6" with a 5/8" pin i believe. I do wanna get a set of dimple dies though.

Thanks! Today I solved what Im gonna do to cover the fender area that I cut for the tilt hood. I have a pair of old fenders that Im gonna cut out a 2" piece of the same area as I did for the tilt hood. Then it's a matter of welding that piece to the tilt hood part of the fender so that when its closed it will overlap the stationary part of the fender.

You talked about tubing the engine compartment, you can build your radiator support off of that.

Dimple die idea mentioned is a great idea, at the very least on your innder fender supports, hood and core support you can use a hole saw to cut out a bunch of holes to lighten all that up.

Here's some more pic's of the fender after the body work. Im no body man in fact this is my first go round at it. I really dont think its needed on a truck that is gonna get trashed but I always wanted to try my hand at it so I figured what better to practice on than this lol.

Everything looks great. Your doing a nice job on your fab along the way man. Keep it up. Thats the beauty of working on these projects yourself. Your learning. If you didn't try you never would learn anything right. So have at it, use your noddle and keep getting your hands dirty and keep having fun with it. It will come together at some point. Only way to inproove you fab skills is by doing, and learning from others.
