My new build...the "me too" short Crew Cab ~UPDATE~ not selling it

Way to get back in the saddle man, I loved your shortbox and i'm sure this will be 1 bitching crew....

Maybe I missed it but what are your plans for the bed. Shortbox? Flatbed? Tube?

Thanks alot man.

The bed?
Thats a good question...Im thinking of shorting the bed also.
I want the wheelbase as short as possible, which looks to be about 135"

Yes, it would be easier to take 12-14" out of the frame and mount the bed.
But the wheelbase would still be too long for my liking ~150"

Youre building a short crew?
Me too:D
Im starting with an 89 GMC 3500 2wd 3+3

Its gonna be a SLOW process (funds and time) but Ive got a pretty good start, so here goes.

The plans for my new truck are.

-3 link front with coilovers (hopefully)
-dual triangulated 4 link rear with coils
-shorten the wheelbase to about 135"
-6.0L LQ4 TH400 NP203/205 Dana 60 H072

Im using as much stuff from my crashed shortbed to use on this build to save money.
As always your advice is appreciated.:thumb:

Here is me bringing it home from Albany (a strange place to find a mostly rust free chevy)
My tow rig is also an 89 GMC 3500 2wd, different nose though:confused:

is it just the angle of the pic but it looks like your red crew is bowing in the middle...

If ya look closer, you'll see the bed is caved in behind the left rear tire.
Got hit at an intersection when the PO had it.
The bed side is bent upwards.

Since Im building a doubler, figured I might as well freshen up and twin stick the 205.

I was surprised how clean it was inside.

Finally got the parts I needed for the TH400.
All was going pretty well on the build until I came across this...
The 2-3 accumulator piston was broken, I missed it on the initial teardown.

Anybody have any ideas where to get one?

That is common for those plastic pistons. If you get the transgo shift kit I think it might come with a new aluminum piston, or they might sell it seperately. Personally I would just go to a local trans parts shop (where all the local trans shops get their parts) and get a new aluminum one for cheap.

Thanks for the tip.
I picked up an aluminum piston locally for $9
Trans is finally done.

Spent some time working on the frame today.

Dig the low buck frame table

Took out 30 inches.
Was originally gonna take out only 12-14 and toss the short bed on it.
But Im gonna wheel it and I know I wouldnt be happy with a 150 inch plus wheel base.
Gonna have to section the bed now.

Still have to plate the inside of the sectioned frame and maybe even box it and add a cross member.
Then on to the rear suspension. Dual triangulated 4 link with coils.

Thanks.
So am I...the bed will be about 5 inches from the front edge to the wheel well.
Just enough to retain the first stake pocket.

Its gonna be a trip taking my Sawzall to a mint shortbed.
