My Re-Re Build Thread.....Drivetrain parts!!

And with some trim rings they'd look a lot like ralley's...:waytogo:

Rene

Yeah. I still want to go to a 16-17" rim eventually. Reason being is the selection of tires is better now days and I never did like the ideal of grinding down the calipers when I got these rims.

Same for me when the 60/14 go in...but a few rattle cans for now would make those rims look sharp in the meantime.

I actually thinking on 16" or 17" black steel rockcrawlers, paint em silver and add trim rings when the time comes. That or H2 rims...

Well, around here I went to the GM dealer in town and asked the guy at the parts counter. He asked how many I wanted...$75 each for new pull-offs. Anything with blemishes was $50 each.

Thats a sweet deal! Do you mind telling what dealer that was.I was thinking about getting a set for my duramax.

It was a large GM Dealer. Dueck on Marine, in Vancouver. i think the set I got was 3 or 4 years ago.

I`m thinking that I`m not going to get any take offs, seeing how they don`t make h2`s no more.

Nice!:thumb:

Id be itching to get it back together before the paint could even dry though.
Thanks Shawn, but with work and the kids and what not my time to work on it is limited.

I got a new GM kit for 1980 Silverado square head lights that I am thinking of installing. My boss gave me all the parts other than the lower splash guard to convert it. All the parts are still in the original GM box's.

can you throw up a quickey ''how to'' on that paint job of yours. I'd like to copy that paintjob on the suburban im picking up on the 9th. Its got a nice stock blue on it atm but its faded back to hell and rusting in some spots. And ive always loved the deep shiny blues on old Gm trucks.

What is it you would like to know? It was pretty strait forward as far as paint jobs go.

To answer the previous question on weather it was painted inside or outside......Yes! Didn't have a booth but I had 3 walls. :haha:Fock it close enough, right?

1.What paint Code # did you use and who did you buy it from?
2.how many coats of paint primer? how much drying time in between?
3.What gun?
4.any other treatments or stuff that you did to it like waxing or clearcoat or something to gloss it over since id like mine to have a shine if i can?
5.how much did it all cost you in man hours/dollars?

I've never done more than a rattlecan paintjob and that was in my engine well of the 73.

Ok so the build was on hold a little longer than anticipated. Anyways I have been collecting parts for the build. My whole purpose of the build is to wheel, see the sights and take my family with me in a rig that will get us back home. So I was trying to come up with a plan on the drive train, I wanted it to be budget yet reliable and good fuel economy. Then everything sort of fell in place. I bought a 94 K2500 with a 6.5TD and a NV4500. I got it from my good friend who was gonna junk it cause it had some front end damage. So we made a deal and I got it for just over $300. I drug it home with the intent of using as a tow rig. Later I came to the conclusion that other than the drive train the rest of the truck was a POS. Body was dinged and dented. Interior had the sh!tty 88-94 layout that I think just sucks ass. So I said fock it and decided that I was gonna pull the engine and tranny and junk the rest, well I am keeping the rear end and spring packs too, but fock the rest.

Then I came across a 78 K30 with a service box, that I got for free. It was pretty rough, and the old gas gussler BBC had a huge rats nest in the engine bay. So I yanked the front Dana 60, hydro boost, 4 core radiator and a few other pieces, and said fock the rest.

I feel pretty confident in what I have gathered, and feel this will be a good combo for durability, strength and longevity as well as decent fuel mileage. So here is some of my collection as of late.
