My SAS'd and hacked up 92 GMC

I've since plasti dipped the grill and mirrors

Then I got 1.5" 0.25 wall DOM tubing with weld in inserts for a new tie rod, reamed everything out to run GM drag link ends.

Spent some of the winter helping a buddy put my old axles under his 05 and finally got it out for a first drive

The little girl loved getting "her" truck all muddy

I haven't done much anything to the truck lately. Made new spring perches to move axle back 1.5" and also lift it 1/2".

Once the axle is relocated a new 1410 rear driveshaft will be made, already have the pinion yoke and slip yoke.

Some 1x2" tubing cut to lift the bed up once the axle is moved back.

Thanks guys!

I got the started last night and the rear axle out

I'm still have the trans temp get hotter then I would like and have been thinking of mounting it in the bed with one of the electric fans I have. There just doesn't seem to be enough room up front for the fan.
Anyone do this and will the fan have to run constantly from no air flow? Obvisiouly it will help when going slow or in the mud playing (where I am having the temp issues) but how about when cruising down the road? With no airflow will the trans still be getting that hot to need the fan running?

I got the new driveshaft made up yesterday

1410 u joints next to the GM 3R/S44. Best of all without and grinding the 1410 allows as much angle as the old driveshaft with plenty of grinding.

Busy day yesterday...

Spring perches welded on, u bolts tightened up, pinion yoke swapped out, new tcase output seal and the driveshaft went in. Finally full drop and no binding :D

I did a little research on shock placement and it seemed that closest out to the wheel and perpendicular to the suspension movement was the best setup for shock efficiency. So the shocks got outboarded and angled to the rear.

Testing out the flex

I also got the electric fan shroud cut down and made a mount for the transmission cooler. Really not sure on a spot to mount it. No room up front behind the grill, limited room under the hood on the inner fender and same as in the bed, plus the amount of mud & water it would see back there.
It would probably be easier to just give up on using the free parts I have and buy a small pusher fan to mount up front.

Still looking good man!

You ever thought about longer shackles?

Yes I have, a 6" shackle would probably work a lot better. I have tried to buy a couple used pairs of longer shackles here locally but the deals never worked out.

I did score a 9" 12V fan for a 4 wheeler from a buddy at work for a case of beer today :waytogo:

So the first test of the new rear end work was a flop, the waterpump blew in the first hole so ended up parking the truck in the woods for the rest of the night.

Round 2 was much better, everything held up good, temps stayed low on the transmission. But the power steering pump failed by the end of the night and I was able to flex a rear tire into the wheel well.

With a new power steering pump installed me and the little girl headed to the camp to check on the game cameras and do a little fishing.

With hunting season only a couple weeks away and not much time for any more mud I took the front hubs apart to clean out and repack the bearings along with new diff fluid

Got out for one last easy run in the mud before hunting season

And finally after many years I bought an antenna for the radio

Bought an old camp that needs a fair amount of work at the first of hunting season so have been working on that between hunts

Luckly the girlfriend filled her doe tag the first weekend

It will soon be time to park the truck for the winter and wait for spring to tackle the large list of maintence and minor repairs, I need to build a guard for the hydro lines on the ram, I've bent one fitting that has a small leak.

Bunch of random pics

Good flex'n rock at the new camp LOL

Today I cancelled the insurance for the winter on the truck. I had been running the truck once or twice a week to work on the camp but with the recent snow it is too much to get out there.
The little bit of snow running has proved that my front driveshaft slip yoke is shot! So that's another thing to fix come spring time.
