My Sub is stranded in the dunes!

Looks like I have forum access again, not sure why I was blocked out of posting and PMs after the software update.

I have plans to pull it out tomorrow at 5pm with the help of Rick(bucksnstucks969), a kinetic tow strap, and another friend with a V8 4WD late model Titan. Also, Ira, camok5, is "on call" as well.

Many thanks to the generous members who have offered a helping hand thus far. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I will have it back in my driveway and can start tearing into it and figure out what's wrong.

Wow that really sucks man, Hope you get it out in one piece. I cant imagine leaving my rig out there unattended. Looks like a badass burb

If ya don't get it, I might come up this weekend and drag you out and see some friends up there. I got the powa. :D Looks like you should get it tho. Air down until you get it out.

EDIT: If you don't get it, post up on NorCalBigDawgs. Should be someone who can get you.

I'll keep my fingers crossed....

on yah, I would not underestimate the 6.2 either. backed by the 700r4 or the 465 its got a lot of torque applied. Only issue on sand is, you need momentum to get unstuck.. and that means straps and speed.

...and breaking stuff! :eek1: Be careful. But yeah, stick that anemic little 6. 2 in lo and air it down and you're good to go.

ya, the breaking stuff part isnt good. MAybe someones got a winch? A winch, (or two) and two trucks should do it. It may also pull the tow truck forward, so you might need to anchor that as well.

Chains and a pull pal to anchor, and then a winch?

If the differential is fragged and you don't want to tear into it out there, remove the front driveshaft or keep it in 2HI and unlock the hubs. It's always easier to move a vehicle (at least partly) under its own power than drag it the whole way.

If a hub is blown, you should probably pull it and make sure nothing is going to get into the wheel bearings. I have seen trucks driven with no hubs and plastic wrap duct-taped over the opening.

Well, good luck.
I wish I could help, but my blazer is down and my brother with a working 4wd is busy doing other things.

Yeah, the hubs will be unlocked and I'll be in 2WD when I try and drag it out in 3 hours. Hopefully that kinetic strap(like a big bungee cord) will really help, and not be too hard on the tow vehicle and my Sub.

good luck man, hope its still out there! i had a jeep that took me 3 days to dig out(was high centered on top of 2 boulders with lots and lots of sand around me) and there was this wierdo homeless guy that watched my car both nights for me, kinda sketched out at first but hey he helped me out every day and actually stuck around to watch my s***. i was stoked and hopefully nothing else has happened to it while you were gone.

I just tried to call him and no answer, so hopefully he is out on the dunes right now working on getting it out.

I'm out! It was pretty easy once I got moving. Momentum is your friend! Now this weekend I'll check the carnage 40"s and a 6500lb rig did to a D44.

Thanks to Rick for helping me out, and to all other CK5ers who offered a helping hand.

Good to hear.

Glad you got out. I have an unrelated question... Did you buy that Truck on Craigslist in roughly October 2006? I saw a truck just like that listed (I saved the pics) and I went back to look and it looks just like yours.

Yup, that's definitely it. I bought it in Oct/Nov of 2007, about 6 months ago. I just talked to the PO, and he said he did throw it up on CL shortly after he built it to see what he could get for it. Obviously he didn't get what he wanted and kept it. He then got in a motorcycle crash and needed money a year later, and that's how I got it. I'm curious what he was asking for when you saw the ad a year before I picked it up. Was this on the Bay Area CL, the PO is from the bay but goes to school down in SLO, and that's where I saw it.
