Need advice on a cheap reliable 4x4 to replace my CUCV with

Rather than do all that, why not simply swap for an M1009? Keep the drivetrain you know, the brand you like, and have the softer ride of the 1/2 (or 5/8?) ton suspension. If you're really worried about the G80, they're not hard to swap out. But I would run it till it broke (if ever).
Sounds like a plan to me!Then , later on , you have a solid foundation for more modifications , if you want.

Im going to keep the m1009 in the back of my head if I find a nice one.

But its hard to beat an 05 crv with less than 100k on the clock for less than 8k.

Ive always had my eye on a m1009 though

I thought you wanted 4wd? Isn't a CRVHonda more like an all wheel drive?

Get what ya want. Put up with it.

Simple as that

That's basically what it boils down to.

It's a FWD car that activates the rear wheels when tire spin is recognized.

Had a friend put a vtec head on his CRV, ran low 13's in the 1/4 on drag radials :D

DAAYAAAM!!!

Yeah I just did more research on the crv. Eff that half assed awd. I'll look for subarus.

I wish I can get a low mileage tahoe. I'll keep my eye out. Can't beat part time 4wd

Why not a mid 2k s10?? Simple, cheap and easy to fix.. Buy a manual and a 4.3 ?? 17mpg.. Decent power. Still gm. I bead the crap outs mine and it took every ounce with no complaints..

Ehhh S10s.

So i was doing my research on the jeeps. It looks like I may go for something between 02 and 08. Ideally the v8. I know the straight 6 has a good rep but apparently the trans its paired with isn't as good and goes around 120-150k

stay ......... RUN away from the jeep v8 equipped with the 4.7 v8 . . . read up on problems with them . they do run o.k. but have a few major items that go bad . and not easy labor time to fix .

Stay away from an M1009. If you want to stick with a Blazer, look for a civilian model with a 6.2. Preferably 1987-1991. Make sure it has decent gears (3.42 or 3.73).

What problems? Ive read that theyre decent. I'm worried about the 42re taking a dump on me with the straight 6

Is it cause the m1009 are 24 volt? Other than that they are the same as a regular blazer for the most part , aren't they?
