Maybe some on added the vent?
Different dash bezel?

Both are possibilities, but I'm leaning toward the first. Dash bezel looks factory, but the vent is only 1/2 the size of the hole. The factory A/C setup on my Suburban has a whole vent instead of a half vent.

Here are some pics of what I have (bezel screws used to match, I managed to misplace a bunch of them when I had it apart).

Not sure if there was a 4th lever there at some point, but I haven't seen another truck with this setup. Martin, this is what we were talking about last summer. Both of the horizontal sliders are mechanical (no vacuum in use on this truck).

Driver-side vent, attached to bezel with screws. On the Suburban this vent is attached directly to the dash, and the bezel just has a hole for it. This one comes out with the bezel. Both vents are attached to wire-reinforced flexible plastic piping (like a dryer vent) instead of rigid plastic tubes.

A/C coil appears to be inside this cardboard box that eats up the legroom.

Until I came around here I never noticed that this stuff wasn't standard. I just figured the 1984 Suburban had received a design update vs. the 1983 K10. Conversations like this one make me realize that other trucks aren't like this. :thinking:
 
Alright guys I ran into another problem.the bolt hole on the cylinder head that holds the alternator in place looks to be broken or stripped. So the alterealtor has some play not much but some. Is this bad or some thing that can be fixed.
 
If you are really worried I think there is a bracket you can attach to the manifold bolt and support the alternator, or just tap the block to the next larger size thread.. Or put a helicoil in there.
 
It has a bracket that is attached to the manifold. So it some thing that shouldn't be a problem.
 
I got off work early so I put on my new wheels and the hub is smaller then the opening on the rim is this going to be an issue that need to be fixed in can't find any good info on this problem 20160408_155704.jpg
 
I guess I don't know what you are talking about. But if it's the silver cap. That's the way I bought it.
 
The silver cap is just a dust cap, covering a drive slug.

What transfer case do you have?

Then you should have lockout hubs.

Buy a set. Your fuel economy will improve, and it will drive nicer.

Ok I had planned on it but getting my girl to let me but any thing that's not for a bathroom remodel is difficult.

They're not hard to find. I pulled a pair out of a junkyard for $20 (and they can come off of several models, not just Chevy trucks).

I know most folks around here don't like the stock automatic hubs, but I have a set you can have for free (if you want them). They engage when you need them and disengage when you don't. The drive slug that you currently have is engaged all the time (so you're always spinning your drivetrain, wearing it out and burning extra fuel).

Their downside is that the automatic hubs don't engage right away when you shift the transfer case. So if you get stuck before engaging 4WD, you can dig yourself a bigger hole before the front axle kicks in. I personally never had this problem (they always seemed to engage promptly for me), but others have complained.
