Ok. If I converted would I be able to add ac? That would help with hauling my newborn. And what gauges would I be able to eliminate?

Yes, you could install the A/C compressor in place of the second alternator without significant mods. Adding A/C does seem like a fair piece of work, though. Might be a better idea to trade for a truck that comes with A/C and 12V already installed.

Gauges aren't required, you can eliminate any of the ones that bother you. But if you remove the second alternator to fit the compressor, you won't be needing the "GEN 2" light anymore.

I would go with vintage air AC its a unit under the dash, when you convert to 12v you lose your gen1&2 lights.

Why would he lose the GEN 1 light unless he installs a voltmeter? IIRC, the alternator must have some resistive path to ground (like the light bulb or the meter) or it won't charge. Anything's possible, but taking out the light would mean more wiring work, no?

I mean he will no longer need the light to complete the circuit, it will not just be a dummy light.

It would make sense if some one want to trade for it. But so far everyone has been afraid of how stripped down it is. Plus when they hear that it's a 6.2 they make a ugly face and tell me they'll have to get back to me.

There are people who pay waaaaaay too much for CUCVs. If you find one of those people you should be able to easily trade it for a Silverado K5. To folks expecting a normal truck, it's really, really stripped down, no O/D, and not everyone likes the diesel. Not an easy sell.

Not sure why folks are gunshy of 6.2 engines.

They had a bad rap long before the internet became main stream. If anything, the internet has helped their reputation.

I've heard bad impressions from bunches of folks, but nobody seems to have a reason for disliking them aside from their slow speed. Most of the time I get some vague statement about how they're weak 'cause they're converted gas engines, and "everyone I know ripped his 6.2 out and converted back to gas."

Is there something that I'm missing? Or is the whole world just wrong in this case? I think all the people that I've met (in real life), that were old enough to use 6.2 rigs when they were new, said some form of the above rigmarole. Which isn't even factual or relevant. :dunno:

It might also be from ignorance in owning a diesel.. I bet you a lot stems from bad glow plugs and running it wot until it melts itself into the ground pulling stuff.. I hear the same crap about VW and I have had 5 with no issues..
