New member to the forum. New Daily 1984 K5 Blazer

Wow, nice move.

You might regret that move after hanging out here a while. We like to encourage bad decisions. So one tons, big block and a 4l80 are all good ideas.

Look at ORD for some links and coilovers too.

I will check them out. I am all about bad financial car related decisions. I can see the 1971 C10 Autocross build is gonna take a back seat.

Why one ton axles for a daily driver?

Martin

Why not? I like to overbuild stuff. I don't need to put our aluminum head 383ci stroker in the Blazer either. It will be more fun though. My wife looks are me like I have 3 heads a lot of the time... Here I was thinking the aluminum head 454 BBC was a little too much.

The 454 makes sense. The one ton axles open an entire different can of worms.

I guess it’s just perspective. Do I need 1 ton axles? Absolutely not. Do I want 1 ton axles? Absolutely Yes.

When I decided to sell my Jeep Wrangler. I was looking at doing 1 ton axles. I just didn’t want to spend the money on a Jeep I owed that much on.

The Blazer is paid for. I have always wanted one. Now I want to over build it. I don’t see putting the money into the stock 10 Bolt axles. GM Dana 60’s are getting harder to find. When I finally sourced one I jumped on it. May as well use it.

Gives me an excuse to get new wheels and upgrade to 4 wheel disc brakes. Hell it make the 454 look better too. ;)

I have never been know to make the best financial decisions with my vehicles.

Well I have been driving the K5 daily. Buying parts daily.
So far I have:
-GM King Pin Dana 60 with 4.10 gears
-Everything to Rebuild the power tailgate
-Two new door shells and everything to build them out
-Inner and Outer Rocker panels
-Power window hot wire relay kit
-Weather Stripping on top of More Weather stripping

I have plenty of work to do now that the weather is starting to warm up.

I haven’t heard of or seen a K5 sold at a regular car lot in a long time. That’s pretty sweet!!

welcome!

No kidding!

remember cash for clunkers? that was the last time I saw a blazer in a used car lot. we lost so many square body blazers and suburbans. we have the highest gas tax in the nation in CA, and subsequently painfully high gas prices... when the clunker program took off, there were blazers and suburban's on ramps on almost every street corner. couldnt find a quick googled reference, but similar to this clunker:

I also do NOT remember anyone getting 4500 around here-thought it was more like 1800-2500. it was sure less than the vehicles had been worth before his administration brought the extra hurt at the pump - THANKS OBAMA!!

I like the part where you got rid of the 40 thousand dollar jeep. when did jeeps come with WTF price tags???

Yeah Jeeps have gotten stupid. Been there. Done that. Twice. I have had a car payment ranging $380-1348 a month for the better part of the last 20 years of my life. I like expensive stuff. Decided enough was enough. Life is to short to drive boring cars. Square body K5 Blazers aren't boring. I will spend the money to get it back to its former Glory, but better. Then its just gas and insurance.

I'm partial to the 400 but a big block works too...
