New owner of 91 K5

Yea that sounds good to me. I have been wanting to do a frame off since I purchased it so this will offer me the chance to do so.

I've seen some bada$$ k5 bobs too; chop the back to the rear spring hangers and either run a flatbed or integrate the OE back side on the shortened rig. Plus, increased departure angle is an added bonus.

I have not even posted half of the rust! Whomever had it before me used sheet metal screws to put some scrap sheet metal under the seats. It has been patched over around a 13 inch peice of original floor that rotted out from behind the passenger seat all the way to the back side of cab up to the bench seat. Learned my lesson to better inspect anything and everything before buying a vehicle!

Been searching all over for a chevy cab with frame. I have found a few but I don't forsee paying 800 for a cab. In the mean time I started pop riveting the hack job floor the PO put in place. Also, took the top off for the first time today and finished primering the outside.

It is me again asking my rookie questions! I am going to switch to manual crank windows buy just buying some different doors already setup. Would doors off a chevy truck match up or would I have to find Blazer doors?

Well today spelled a day of doom for the K5! After watching the rerun of the most recent American Top Gear.. My Blazer fell victim to a broke drive shaft that managed to take a chunk off the back of my transmission. I don't know how but it did rendering both useless. The transmission was just rebuilt in June of 10 too. I might end up having to sell it for something else right now. not wanting too though

The trans or the t-case? It seems the rear d-shaft would not even reach the trans. Or maybe the front d-shaft let go and that could possibly punch a hole in the side of the trans.

Get some pics and maybe we can work through this. A t-case is pretty easy to swap out and chances are maybe it's just the tailshaft.

I will get a picture tomorrow when I go to work. I limped it to my mother in laws with front wheel drive. I am trying to find a good picture on the internet to show where exactly it appears to be missing a chunk.

Sorry for such a small pic. I was searching google for something somewhat similar. The leak is right around the top part. It appears to be missing the top chunk to be exact. Tomorrow I will try to get an exact picture of mine for you guys to see. I am wondering if when Aamco rebuilt the tranny for the PO if they over torqued the bolts or something right there. My yoke where the ujoints sit had half of one of the circles break off.

Yea I really don't want to! I actually had it towed home today. Found a 700R4 out of an 88 Chevy 4x4 for sell for $200. I am going to jump on it this weekend. They also have the transfer case I can get the yoke from where it sheared off the circle part the ujoint goes in. If you look at the picture I posted up above it broke off on the top right of where it looks like a bolt goes on the very end of transmission before the transfer case. I hate having to replace a good transmission for something like that!

*UPDATE* Scored a 700R4 transmission and transfer case from an 89 Chevy 2500 for a $100! The guy had it behind his garage and was ready to get rid of it. I drove straight up on my wedding anniversary to get it just in case it would be gone tomorrow lol. Took 1hr and a half each way but it was well worth the 40 in gas.

It's my every couple week update again if anyone cares :P. Ended up getting my transmission and transfer case dropped this weekend. Here is a picture of the rear of the transmission where the whole housing cracked and started coming off.

Any suggestions on what would cause the transmission to have cracks in it right there? Aamcco rebuilt this transmission and everything in June of 2010 before I bought this truck. I am thinking that they didn't tighten the bolts enough. Some of them came out really easy when I was removing where it bolts to the transfer case.

Another problem I have ran off is the transfer case that came out of my truck is different than the one that came attached to the 700R4 I bought. Here is a picture of the one that came out of my truck it is pretty dirty and I haven't cleaned it off yet which appears to be a 208.

here is the one that came attached to the 700r4 i bought that came out of an 88 2500 which turned out to be a 241C

My 208 appears to have a crack in it also. Is it possible to have it welded? It hasn't been leaking fluid or anything else. I guess selling the 241 will help pay for the new seals and gaskets. I will also need a new yoke, anyone know a good place to get one? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to keep from selling it if I don't have to!
