New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

I drove the Blazer Sunday and I cannot believe how good it rides...and I still haven't put new shocks on the rear...

your truck looks good...if I had a regular truck it would definitely have roof lights...just makes it look like a tough old S.O.B.
 
The burb rides really well too. This thing is just rough. The roof lights are cool! I love the glow they put on the hood when it's dark out. Especially when it's snow covered. I think this truck is going to look rightly outrageously good when I do finally get the lift and tires! It's going to have insane amounts of rugged beauty. And with all that, and new paint, I won't be able to stop staring at it.
 
Looks good. Should look real tuff with a small lift and new tires.
 
The Old mans camper special with 235/85's and 50 pounds of air in em rides the same. Damn lumberwagon I tells yeah :haha:

I think it's going to look insane. And kinda unique. But also, it should be pretty fun to drive.

It's awful right now! I want to get this thing to a point where I actually want to drive it in the woods and such. Right now, I shudder to imagine driving this on bumpy gravel country roads.
 
I'm looking forward to seeing this coming together. I've got a similar plan for my 79 nowadays, going for more of a resto/ work type build.
 
To me, it's the only way to get to enjoy them as much as possible. I've already told the wife I'm buying about $1000 worth of tires for it. She said it was fine but that I had to wait until after we get back from vacation in may. So it will be that long before I can get tires, but really that's only a few months away. The tires and springs are the number one things I can't wait for! Until then I'll just be plugging away at little stuff. I'll get the exhaust done and put the leds in the dash, I need to rebuild the window regulators in the doors and while I'm in there I'm going to stick on some peel and seal to get a little sound deadening. So, little stuff like that until I get the tires and springs, then the next step will be fixing my welder to get it back on the bottle and off the flux core, then start in on a little body work.
 
Lucked out and noticed these pics posted by member super k. They are of a truck with 2" lift and 285/75-16's just like my plan! I think the stance is just what im after!

Those look a little bigger than I'd have expected 285s to look. I was thinking 305's or 315's for my 79 but those look pretty good.
 
If I were to ever lift one, that is the perfect amount of lift...I like that.
 
Same here! Really though the main reason I want the lift is just as a way of getting a better ride. The tuff country ez ride springs are the softest lift springs that is know of and are offered all the way down to 2" lift. The altitude /attitude adjustment is just a bonus.
 
They do. Also, I forgot I got my leds installed in the dash! They are nice. I went with a fairly dim set since I have seen lots that looked like they would be annoyingly bright at night and you can't dim them. I would say the brightness is right about the same as the incandescents. I'll have to drive it for a while to see if I will want them brighter. But for now, it least they all work! Here is a shot on my bench.

I also now understand why everyone that posts pics of their led conversion says they look better in real life...
 
Took my wife almost 4 hrs to get home Thursday...

I love the snow, don't like driving with all the clowns who should stay home when this happens
