Alriiiiight.... :D
Looks great, mike!

I can check it out in person on Friday...
Hey, do you still have my tire groover?

The tires don't look bad on there. Are you keeping the ladder rack?

My thoughts exactly.
I like the look.

If anything, the 35's are just gonna look 'bigger', not 'better'. :dunno:
I think it looks 'athletic', right now... If that makes sense.
Like it has running shoes on, instead of work boots.

I am not keeping the ladder rack on there, I use it mainly during summer for the kayaks but I really do not like it. Not sure If ill modify it build another one or think of something else.

Glad everyone thinks the tires look ok, there not bad but seem a tad on the small side to me...Maybe they will grow on me, there brand new so I have some time before I buy new tires.

Ok so had a few extra minutes today and installed a grant signature steering wheel I had from a previous vehicle and discovered that I absolutely hate the wheel! It feels great however it is right in my line of site for the gauges and I have a non-tilt column, so Im thinking about using a wheel from a 1993 suburban. As I recall all the wheels are the same fitment from like 1970 to 1995 ish, Im I right in my thinking that it will go right on?

On a side note I just realized this was in the garage and not the driveway, who can I pm to get it moved?

Correct. I put the newer steering wheels in all of my rigs.

I have a Recaro wheel.
Looks like a Grant.

Crazy comfortable feel.

Yeah I love the feel and look, but having the non-tilt column and the smaller diameter wheel interferes with my gauges which I do not like. If it was just a little larger it would be ok, or a tilt wheel. My blazer has a similar wheel and a tilt column so it doesn't interfere. I looked at the suburban wheel and I think it will be a perfect size.

Blacked out Grill, Warn Bumper and Steering wheel change

Ok today I got a chance to switch out the grant wheel with one off a 92 suburban I have. The wheel works and feels great and no interference with gauges so im pretty happy with it. Took off the stock bent front bumper and put on the warn bumper I had taken off the blazer. Its too big for the trail but for the tow rig I think it will do until I build a custom bumper. Also decided since I was there to remove the broken grill and replace it with one I had on the parts blazer out back. Sanded it up and sprayed it black along with the headlight bezels. Its not my favorite grill style but it will do until I fab a custom grill in the spring. I have some cool designs that combine some metal forging of some square stock, some plexiglass for the bow-tie and some LEDs. Heres some pics:

Home from work and saw my neighbor, hes selling a lathe, Im thinking I should pick it up it has all the tooling and stuff with it and I know I can get a great deal! Ill check it out and the brand latter and post up.

Ok im getting back to the bed issue again. Still undecided whether to find a good condition fleet-side bed (the one I have is toast) or to build a custom flatbed. I love the trail-beds but they loose too much functionality for me on this build.

The lathe my neighbor is selling is a southbend. I looks like a pretty good unit, but if anyone has input on it let me know!

Still contemplating the bed options and now I have decided that I will possibly be doing an engine swap. The truck has a newer 350, which runs great however it lacks in the power department on this size truck, especially towing. I also have a suburban that the 350 gave up on so I figure, pull the 350 out of the truck and put in the sub.

I think I will probably being going with a 454 for the truck, seeing as its a bolt in fast and easy swap, aside from the referee for California smog. I want to be able to Tow about 8000 lbs without too much strain and I think the 454 will accomplish this ok. I had toyed with the Idea of a 12V Cummins swap but I think it would be cost prohibitive at this point. Anyone have thoughts on a good generation 454 for the truck? I would prefer to stay with the carburetor as I do not want to add the required emissions equipment for injected 454's that would be required in California. TBI is not too bad, but I have been told they are pretty lethargic as 454's go. Any Ideas would be great!

I don't like longbeds really so I vote for flatbed. Or maybe kind of a flatbed trail bed hybrid like I am going to do. It will be able to haul anything that a normal flatbed would but its going to have tube work on the front and the sides are going to be tube work, not wood in stake pockets

If you go flatbed do something to jazz it up. I hate just a normal flatbed but add some tube or come cool sides done with wood and stained all nice they are way cool very utilitarian solution to not being able to find a decent bed

A tbi 454 with a little more cam, intake and headers will make about 350+hp and 500ftlbs of tq. That is 150 more hp than a tbi 350 and about 250 more ftlbs. My buddy is building one right now with a performer intake, vortec 454 cam I gave him and headers. We will see with the power is after the chip tune.

When is that gonna be finished? Are you gonna put it together for him?
