Buy the chain, guides and tensioner from ENGNBLDR , they are cheaper than LC Engineering. Might as well do a cam at the same time, too :D As for cost, you can do it for less than $100, its just a pain to do if its your first time and you are unfamiliar with the motor. After you get used to tearing them appart, you get fast with them. I can go from a complete motor in the truck to just the block with rotating assembly in it in about an hour if i really bust my butt.

I looked at their stuff and for the price I'm not convinced that they offer the same quality of parts. AIR both guides in the LC kit are steel backed, not just the driver's side part. FWIW, the chain kit from LC was about $170 delivered. I call that cheep insurance. With engine parts it usually doesn't pay to get the cheap stuff unless the engine is short term anyway.

One thing about getting the timing cover off that usually bites people who haven't done it b4 is the bolt hidden in the oil puddle under the distributor drive gear.

The problem with doing a cam is that the rockers should be replaced and you have to pull the head bolts to get at the cam. Which makes the head gasket seal a question mark. I'd leave that part alone until you decide for sure that you need a cam. At that point I'd freshen the whole engine. Easiest way to kill an engine with a lot of miles on it is to try to hop it up.

BTW, "FSM" means "Factory Service Manual" Not sure if that is used around these parts as much as it is in yoter land. None of the aftermarket manuals that I've seen come close to the quality of the toyota FSM's, but then they don't cost what the FSM's do either. ebay is a good recommendation for finding one.

Whats the difference between the single chain and dual chain kit? Whats better?

Stock comes with single, right?

Is there a way to do a SFA swap without netting any lift? I want a solid axle for reliablility and because I like axles better then IFS stoof. Of do I have to get some lift??

Leave it IFS. If you were to do a SAS, you would need 3" minimun for the steering to clear, and even that is close. Besides, you already have a SFA truck, and there are a few companies who make some sweet long travel IFS suspensions for that truck ;)

I'll sign up on that site tonight and look around further. Then I will talk to the guy to see if he still has it and will send to moi.

What is the space for above the tape player? It looks like the thing on the left can be punched out for something ?

TTT for the picture question.

emailed that guy about the FSM. Hope to hear back soon. I saw a PDF file from one of the sections and it looks REALLY detailed!!

Does it cover wiring too? Probably does...just clarifying...

I have an 88 4runner I am making tough with chevy stuff, and the holes above the radio contain the power antenna switch and I believe the cargo area light switch.
