Nice American made shocks for cheap!

I just found this and am kicking myself. Anybody who got extras want to sell for a very small profit?

1986 K10 and I'll be lifting it 4" or so.

Who else has put theirs on?

First, ive never installed a shock that wasn't under tension w/ some straps or somethign out of hte box.

These were compressed, with no preload. I had to pull them out to install them. Is this normal?
These are not nitrogen charged. The shocks you are describing are.

what is the factory eye to eye shock measurement setting on level ground of a stock mid 80's blazer......same question but one with a 4 inch and 6 inch lift......

I purchased a set of 88 and up from summit and installed them on my 87. They seem to fit and work just fine. Although I think they are much softer then the Rancharo's I had on there. Anyone know which model rears on edelbrock's website will fit?

So, who has installed these?

3 Months and probably 5k miles, both upper bushings are destroyed. WTF. I put them on with the supplied bolt sleve, but looks like they moved side to side on that sleeve and wore out. I thought about putting a spacer in there, but never did. Figured they had been designed that way.

I thought the drivers side one just died cause the master cylinder leaked all over it, but when the passenger side FELL OUT it was clearly not just the brake fluid.

Got universal GM HELP bushings from kragen, they suck. Only the little ones could be crammed into the shocks, used the big ones trimmed shorter to space it on teh bolt mount.

Spent more time replacing the bushings than i did installing the shocks....could have upgraded if the f-ing truck wasn't stealing all my money recently with a trans an AC repair.

Anyone else have this issue? If you havent' installed them, rig something so the front upper shock does not move laterally along the bolt sleeve!

Hopefully my rigged bushings will live for a while, until i can afford some different shocks. They are still way stiff, but better than when the bushings fell out:doah:

Damn do shocks with no bushings make awful noises clanking around:eek1:

Gonna call them about warranty replacement.

Mine are still in boxes, on the back porch.

I will wait and see what others have to say about them. If they experience the same problems as you did, I will probably sell mine to some poor soul in town for near the regular price.

i put mine on the k5 and only got about 6 hours of wheeling on them so far and they are good yet, "i think" . i'll check'em out and report back.

What did you do on the fronts? Just push the bolt sleeve through the bushing, and install?

I wasn't sure if this was normal behavior or not. I've got the standard 4" lift RC shocks and while the back pair are mounted very solidly, the front two just kind of flop around in the upper mount. There is a ton of room for them to slide back and forth. I haven't noticed any adverse wear on the bushings yet, but damn that doesn't seem right.

Yah, its not. I wish i had cut the metal bolt sleve short, and used the factory (?) shock spacer. Really, anythign that keeps it from sliding back and forth would work....

So yah, i'll let you know what tech/warranty says.

Posting up to keep an eye on this. I have them currently for the front when I do the 4" lift, and I planned to get a set for the rear. Anyone running a 4" lift with the rear shocks that can give me a part number?

sweet ta-ta's, ok, so if im doing a shackle flip out back, and 52" springs up front, would i get the shocks for the 4in lift, or would the increased articulation of the 52's up front require a shock with more travel? say a 6in shock up front???? with 4in shocks out back?

or should i just go universal lifted??? with the external resivour. probably should call edelbrock to find out. but still curious about the issue of the 52" springs. technically its a 4in lift, but after i do the crossover steering, and all that jazz, i dont want to be limited by my shock travel.

have you read the threads on the 52" swap yet? you need different mounts and shocks.

daum..... and i was hoping to ride the gravy train ;)

ive breezed through those threads, i guess its time to start really going through and taking notes. ive got the memory of a gnat.

Factory shock spacer would fix your problem... the shocks aren't supposed to move, and I bet you get some awesome noises in the front from that.

ok, so are there any other reviews of people with these on their trucks? anyone take them wheeling?? i guess i can do a google search for reviews, but i respect the opinions of those on this forum more than random internet people. My desire for 52's has faded, and ill be going with good ol 4in lift springs. so im back lookin at these shocks.

They seem like a good stiff shock

I may try to throw some on my rear to stiffen it up but I'm not sure they will be long enough travel, only 8"

They would be perfect on a 4" stock length spring set up though

But you won't be able to get them for 6 bucks anymore
