Soot control is the most important part, the other is the extra additives for lubrication.I'm no oil expert, but I was under the impression that "Diesel specific" oils were mostly (all?) about soot control. If I'm not wrong, then not sure anything described here would be addressed by using diesel specific. FWIW, I've use Rotella 15/40 Diesel formula since new.
Used to be more zinc, but now I think they use boron.
It also dosen't break down as fast as the regular oil under heavy use.
