Machine work $300
781 heads, valve job, springs, retainers, etc.., roller lifters, pushrods, guideplates, roller rockers, poly locks, billet timing chain $500
Pistons rods $430
Cam $230
Valves $125

$1585 so far, I belive that is everything except the intake, which will probably be another $100

Glad to see I don't need any more expensive parts, it was depressing and exciting at the same time buying them. :haha:

way cool....definitely a budget build for a BBC

I spent probably 3 hrs trying to degree my cam in :haha:. Probably took it on and off 40 times. With only one marking on the sproket it makes it a real PITA.

It looks like I finally got it though, I'll have the guy that I bought all my parts from double check it.

Tomorrow I should have all my parts though, I ordered in ARP rocker studs, the rest of my push rods should show up and I'll get head gaskets.

Did I mention everything will be black? I am painting everything down the intake manifold. I ordered tall painted valve covers that will also be painted black. :D

And if I ever talk myself into fancy valve covers, it will look like this

Odds are I probably won't since most of the engine will be covered by brackets and pulleys.

yep...that's a budget build. I threw 5 grand at my 385 small block in no time, but it included an msd ignition carb, aluminum heads, intake, all arp bolts, and so on. I was trying to make big block numbers from small cubic inches. My truck and toyhauler weigh 16k pounds ready to roll. I am happy with mine, but you will probably have the same or better numbers if all of the parts on yours match up well.

Post a video of the engine if you can, once it comes to life. Have fun.

Will definitely get a video, in HD

My main problem right now is carburation

I have an 870 vacuum secondary and a 600 double pumper

I have a vacuum secondary 750 Holley if you are interested...PM me.

used about 1 year....sitting on the shelf now...

Hopefully I can get my intake from the dude of craigslist soon

I'll paint the intake with por 15, and maybe base coat clear coat my valve covers

I see you're running the alt brackets that use a smog pump. Do you have a belt # to use when ditching the smog pump? Near as I can tell, a 6PK1350 or 1370 should work.
