nv 4500 or gear vendor

Why would you want to keep the mechanical clutch? Now would be a perfect time to update to hydraulic.

scrap yard painted it aluiminuin, its an nv4500 out off a 1998 gmc 1 ton 6.5l. not sure what clutch system we will use but i always like simplicity, thats why its probably will be mecanical.

Hydraulic is actually simpler than the mechanical IMO...

yeah maybe but you have a slave cylinder and a master cylinder, hose oil and pressure! mecanical a few rods a bushing and with a new fork and ball should last a long time. will see whats easyest too gather up! parts wise i mean.

parts are in:laugh: took a while too get my 42 ford out.were kd of late starting this, but we will take what ever time it takes(hope its understandable). got the transmission ready ,longer dodge main shaft machine for a gm clutch throw out bearing. took a big balancer off on the rear shaft to install a kind off clamp, then cut the shaft too 4,498 inch long. and install rear adapter for our np205. the reason for the dodge longer shaft, is too keep our stock bellhousing and clutch size,if we would off used a new bellhousing we would off have too use a smaller diameter clutch. and a smaller starter. because its a 6.2. wife here supper time pictures later:dunno:

Good lookin old truck. Nice to see kids that care about dads old stuff enough to keep it Rollin and puttin in some good parts. Hope mine do the same one day.

its the original color. picture was taken about 5 years ago.was painted in 1998 with all gm body parts . its got a bit of rust on the front bottom fenders. we started taken them off today too get them repaired, before they get too bad. and too replace the inner fenders they are pretty bad. so they could be ready after were done with our transmission. were replacing the hydrovac and exhaust too.

I had an 87 crewcab that was 6.2, I took out the 400 and used the 4500 out of a 97 chevy, used the bell housing that was with the tranny, since mine was the 87 it was already 32 spline and a round bolt pattern , so tranny and tranfercase bolted up ,no expensive advanced adapters stuff, and the hydraulic stuff out of a 85 was used for pedals, worked great ,, went from 13-14 miles to gallon to 18-20

might have too replace fenders. we have a 12 inch clutch, with a multiple leg pressure plate(easy pedal). would like too install a 3 leg pressure plate.would anybody have parts numbers for a 3 leg pressure plate or a heavy duty clutch .our transmission cover is pretty rusted not very big or heavy if anybody,s got a good one pm me would be interested.

its a 14bolt ff and i guess gm doesn,t even sell a yoke for our differencial anymore, like too get a new one! where would i find a new yoke? they are all over(gm14bolt ff) they must be made yet:dunno:!!! carquest or napa can,t find a yoke. were there many different models ,we have a 1350 joint?

truck not quit ready! but went for a first road test. no hood no front drive shaft and fenders arn,t painted! transmission shifts well gear spaceing looks nice and easly gaining 15 mph. kind off noisy no transmission floor cover yet too! only problem is transmission is very noisy at idle in neutral with clutch pedal out, seems like gears rattling! sounds alot worse without transmission floor cover, but think its not really normal:dunno:!!! anybody ever have this problem. got the right oil in it,its second hand so maybe it had a hard life.
