OFFICIAL* Dante's Peak Suburban Build *

What does a Suburban weigh? I have the truck and a 10k trailer. If I could get help with fuel, I could haul it north somewhere. I am probably the closest to him.

If this works out, just lemme know what you need. I'll provide whatever I can to get this back on the road.

Little late to the party but I can verify we scrapped a complete 90 Burb and it weighed 5500#.

Alrighty,

I just unloaded Lawrence's 8.1L into my shop last night. He wants to keep the manual transmission, so I'm gonna go ahead and get a clutch and flywheel on order for it. Its an 01 engine but they had some issues with the CKP sensor failing so I'll be updating it to a newer 03 PCM and control system to make it more reliable.

I've got the fuel system sitting on the shelf and will order up a set of BBC mid-length headers for it. I'm going to need to swap his radiator out with a 4 core rad to support the big block and also need to track down an engine fan for it as well. This L18 was previously installed in an 83 Chevy 4x4 shortbed truck and already has the proper engine mounts on it to bolt it straight in. Wiring is pretty easy, especially on a TBI truck.

I imagine the swap will take me the better part of a month just tinkering on it for a couple hours after work. I don't have any weekend time to spare these days with commuting 500 miles each way to go see my girlfriend in Calgary every weekend.

What I need CK5 to help with is to get the truck to within a couple hundred miles of the border so I can make a day trip out of crossing the border from Calgary to pick it up and heading back home again that same day. Hauling it home would be no different than my normal commute.

When I head south to King of the Hammers in Feburary I will drop the truck off at his house. More than likely I'll just drive it then catch a flight down to Palm Springs and get picked up by my crew for the race then fly home again after the race. If he wants it sooner than that we will need to arrange to get it taken back down to his place in a similar way to it coming up to mine.

Holy awesome batman

I don't know what gears are in the truck, but this seems like a lot of work to not end up with overdrive.

I started a thread in the Rocky Mountain region area asking for a drop off place.

Unless Russell and I can figure out a time when we could meet.

The furthest south I'd be able to go in a day trip would be Great Falls MT. That's 10 hours of driving in one day for a round trip from Calgary.

Its 14 hours of highway driving from Ouray to Great Falls. That's too much to ask of one person to move it.

Lets try and work it out this way:

ktmoutfront moves it from Ouray to Salt Lake City and delivers it to Keith Blazer. That's roughly 6 hours of driving.

From Keith's place we have Riley Nelson move it up to Afton, WY to Eric Westover. That's around 3.5 hours of driving

We get Eric to move it from his place to Butte or Helena to meet Cole Martin who will haul it 2.5 hours up to Great Falls.

I'll pick it up in Great Falls and haul it the 12 hours home.

We will take a collection for fuel money for everyone and spread it around on a per mile basis to help offset the costs associated. I'll voluntarily opt out as it won't be a hardship for me to pay for the drive.

I'll need to talk to Cole, Riley and Eric to make sure they are able / willing to help out.

Sounds complicated but also the easiest! I'd like to pitch in for fuel too. What will be the PayPal we can give to when the time comes?

Russell, I am good with getting it to great falls. I don't have a real job, so I can take days off whenever. And I have never been to that part of the country. So it will be new scenery for me.

And that does shorten it. 40 hours of drive time in the semi. Maybe a little less. 3 days round trip. Easy.

I've gotten in touch with Riley, Cole and Eric. All three said they are willing to help move the truck as well. Cole figures he can bring it right up to Sweet Grass for me to meet up with him there.

The next dates that I would potentially be available to go to Sweet Grass would be on the 15th or on the 29th of August.

Russell, where are we at on this? I need to get plans set. I will have a 5.5 hour drive to Ouray. Then probably a 7 hour drive to SLC seeing as I will be in the semi. Then the return to home. 2 long days.

I can be free from now until the 13th. Or 16th to the 25th.

Lets get this beast on the road.
