OFFICIAL* Dante's Peak Suburban Build *

I was cool with leaving the keys in it, Eric said his neighbors are cool, but when the creepy century link guy came over to chat I was a bit weird about it. I gave him erics cell number and told him he would love to hear about all the bs he had to offer:whistle:

So that's why Eric has been getting all those calls lately? :haha: :haha:

Has a plan solidified for getting this the rest of the way down there yet?

On the bus headed to Idaho Falls to pick up the burn.
So it has insurance on the truck and I am feeling like an expecting father. Wondering what to wear thinking my black BDUs with a white shirt and black tie. If I had a black hat and plain black shoes ...... now how am I going to slip Riley money for his ticket. AND no refusing bub.....

Clearly, you need to sneak it to him without him knowing. Leave it some place where he'll find it 3 weeks from now.

Got the burb, it fired right up, cruises nicely, good power, trans shifts smooth, but the speedo is a little slow, I was following my friend over to his place and he was doing 65, but the burb indicated 60. I'll head south in the morning to Salt Lake and await Lawrence's arrival tomorrow night by train.

Awesome! :saweet: :saweet:

Burb is safe and sound in my driveway, made the 270 mile trip with no drama whatsoever, but of course I had to buck a 30 mph headwind through most of Idaho in 3rd gear and still averaged 12 mpg at 65-70 mph the whole way. This could really use some deeper gears in the axles to make the engine/trans happiest, it was running 1800 rpm at 70 mph, and with all the stuff Lawrence has put on there it downshifts for the slightest grade.

Very well done though, Dr Cole, the engine and trans performed very well the entire way, never ran warmer than 205 climbing Malad pass and usually stayed right at 195.

no 1ton swap . . . . .dreaded ck5 rabbit hole problem .

maybe later on if he is up to it someone in the area might be able to hook him up with some nice axles with better gears for a easy bolt in job .

Interesting. He and I both thought it was overgeared without O/D, so I'm surprised to see the tables turned.

This is a G80 truck, so he has a decent chance of having an axle failure at some point. I think the axles are the last thing left in this truck that haven't been modded in some way. :dunno:

That's the beauty of overdrive.

It didn't have a tach before, so it was just guesswork on my part.

I think it's much better off, though, as he'll be able to use it when he wants it. And IIRC that rig never got more than 13MPG on a good day, so it probably hasn't worsened. Will be interesting to see what it runs without a tailwind.

And has he arrived yet? Or is he still in transit?

:woot:

Lawrence won't be in Salt Lake until midnight or so, train was delayed arriving at Grand Junction.

I also think any other tire on the planet (other than anything from Interco) would net a substantial gain in economy.those things drag like no other.
