He was to email me Friday when he got home. We had spoke on phone and I told him I would give him $100. He was to contact me so we could get specs right and set up payment.

I left several messages over the weekend and he never called. Ad is not on craigslist any more.

Found one in Grand Junction for $7000 it is attached to a truck

The owner said I am welcome to come up and make a pattern of it. So I am driving up there Tuesday to photograph and make templates. Any one ever do this some tips would help.

Worth a shot: ask him if you find a clean stock chrome bumper if he'll trade with you.

Looks like Lawrence's membership has temporarily lapsed, so I'll put up a brief update.

As mentioned above, he found a center section for the Trans4mer, and it works out that I'm about five minutes away. I wonder if we have local CK5'ers everywhere?

Anyway, I went and picked it up; the guy thought it was a bit weird and I tried to explain the whole "CK5 Underground Railroad" of truck parts, which made him laugh. It's got some surface rust and scale and needs a little love, so I'm gonna wirebrush it and repaint it before I ship it up to Lawrence. Pix forthcoming.

It'll still need the outer sections, but I think those'll be easier to fab if a pre-made set can't be located.

On closer examination, the brushguard, cowcatcher, whatever you call it, was in rough shape. The powdercoat was nasty and had rust bubbles, somebody had bent one corner over to make it fit on a different body style truck, etc.

It's hard to see, but in the upper right of this pic, the PO had bent like 6" of the corner down at 45* The MAPP torch, big C-clamps, and the almighty BFH got it to reasonably flat on my welding table.

And the aforementioned rust ... not like rust belt rust, but for California, pretty gnarly.

But nothing that repeated application of the wire cup brush and the flap disc couldn't resolve (above, "after", below, "before")

Anyway, the pieces are zinc'ed and quickie-painted, though as I told Lawrence they'll prolly need touch up. I packaged it up and sent it out... the Fedex guy is gonna love us , friggin 70 pound package

Eh, it's easy enough when I was I think three miles from the seller. Seemed silly not to.

You can have them if you want. It is a full set including the back, and they are still on the truck, but you dont have to take the truck.

Anyways, ill be following this build pretty devoutly. This is very very cool what you do to bring back pieces of c/k history! So many guys are cutting these things all to hell, only to have most of an original frame, and a junk set of fenders left over from the original truck..... im like "theyre not making any more of these.... i promise"

I am following this thread closely. Can you give a name and URL for the snorkel supplier? I'd like to see a picture of the mounts for the rack too.

I'm just starting a Suburban restoration and may use elements from this thread.

I am also interested in what you do about the antennas. I have a HAM license and thinking of having both a CB and a 2m radio in my vehicle. I plan to install the antennas while the headliner is out.

Trying to work some thing out on the China snorkels that will benefit all of us at CK5. So just hang lose on that.

As for the antennas I will have a stubby 450 mhz in front and am thinking a 147 mhz at rear. My CB will be in the middle. REMEMBER they will bang on trees and drag drive thru's

How many antennas did the movie truck have? I see two in the photo. Personally, for the HAM antenna I intend to go with a mult-band on a NMO mount. The NMO mount should allow removal when necessary, though with the central location in the roof, I dont expect to do that very often.

I am also unclear on where the radios were mounted inside the truck in the movie. Anyone have that tidbit?
