OFFICIAL* Dante's Peak Suburban Build *

The site lets you select size and how many you want. Once we get numbers I can get pricing. The minimum number was six shirts and cost would of been around $35 each. The more shirts that are ordered in a run lowers the cost.

The way it normally works (mrk5 correct me if wrong) is there is a set up fee then a per shirt. This company puts the set up fee in and spreads it out. So as an example if we got 6 shirts it would be $35 each if we get 20 shirts it might be $20 a shirt.

I won't know actual prices until I order them.

Well I went to check the angle of the snorkel. Did see some major progress on the paint work.

Not bad seeing as I dropped it off on the 24th October.

Well I went to check the angle of the snorkel and it seems it is the 60 series and NOT the 80 series snorkel that was used in the movie.

Did see some major progress on the paint work.

I was looking at pics of 80`s and 60`s...the 80 snorkel seems longer on the horizontal hood section and more swept back for the windshield.

Is that right Lawrence?

It is taller and is farther away from pillar. I know I will need to heat it some but it ain't going 6 inches!

Looking closer at the pictures it looks like they used the 60 series. ARB is going to do some measurements and compare the angles for me.
Here is the guy from Flagstaff that did a 80 series you can see in the pictures the gap and I think he said he had to make the pillar bracket.

signed up for a shirt I suppose I better get one LOL

Glad everything is coming along.

Lemme know if there is anything else you need.

Like I said last minute stuff can be done when you head up this direction.

I got a comfy bed for ya. So if we need to we can spend a couple days working on finishing details.

Time is drawing near!!!!!

Eric we will have to make up the vertical slats on the front of the combo kit. It looks like two rods nook over top bar and hold the slats ( 3 on top and 3 on bottom) with the bottom one being bolted to combo kit.

No problem. I just figured I'd give you some help if you need it. Really cant wait to see your build! Good luck

I don't know what they actually used in the movie but here are some more pictures of an FJ80 snorkel. This isn't my suburban. Please forgive me if you are the owner of these pictures. I can't remember who's rig it is but I think it is a CK5 member. I have a few more pictures of the mounting and install if you need them.

That's mine. I sold the snorkel to hillbilly deluxe if my memory serves. It required heating and a ratchet strap around the window frame to get the shape righr. Pretty sure I had to make a new bracket for the a pillar as well.

Hey Dustin. Sorry to post picture of your rig. I saved them because I thought it was super cool and a great reference if I ever decide to install a snorkel.

Primer next week

Went by Mayboca's today since I had to meet with attorney. Truck is looking good. He said he will be pulling the doors next week and starting the primer.

We had a talk about the work and I acknowledged that I know he is going over and above on the work he is doing for the build. This will be a plus for him too; he made it sound as if MS is looking to use some pictures of the job. If we bring back a trophy I told him he gets to pimp it for a few months at his shop and I want to take him to dinner for the above and beyond job he is doing. I talked to a guy back east and he told me what he thought the work would cost.:eek1:

I got a call from the body shop. They are ready to start shooting primer Wednesday. I will take them $1,000.00 and that will be $1,700.00 paid of the $2,500.00

I'll get some pictures and post Wednesday.

Well frack! Got an email on the snorkel and it seems it was an 80 series after all. However the original truck used an 80 Series Snorkel with a part number of SS80HF. This version was discontinued back in 2001. The whole snorkel was redesigned to adequately work with the US-Spec vehicle’s antennas. The SS81HF has been sold since then.

So it will have to do. It will be interesting to see how bad I screw it up.

Also an update on painting.
He was getting ready to start the primer when I left it all looks good so far here are a few pics of the truck before he started.

I stopped by to check on the status of the paint today. It doesn't appear that a whole lot has changed except some more smoothing on the long body lines. I snapped a few pics anyway. The owner was out of the shop but the guys said this was the next one scheduled to shoot.

Lawrence, you could probably spot any significant changes since you saw it last. I'll keep checking in on it for you.

are they taping around the fender badges and door/tailgate handles?
See if you can get them removed...even if you have to do it yourself...much cleaner/professional looking results.

They have removed the badges/handles/locks etc where the body work has been completed. I am assuming that they will remove the rest before they shoot :dunno:.

They were detailing an older Ford pickup that they just finished and it looked pretty good. If the burb gets the same treatment then it should be pretty nice.

Lawrence, I'll check on trim removal next time I stop by unless you have already addressed that with them.
