He has been driving it, but he doesn't put many miles on it. He does have a GMT-400 blazer, but Big Red is his truck of choice.

I'm not sure what his engine requirements are. It's been a bunch of soul-searching on his part just deciding whether to keep it or raffle it off now.

If he keeps it it can't be something that breaks regularly. He has no facilities for performing repairs beyond normal maintenance.
 
I wish I had the cash to just buy it outright. I do have a 5.7l with 400 wheeling hours on it. How long can he wait?
 
I'll kick in a few Hundy to get a new mill in.


Russel owns half of this last I knew. We need him to hop down for a weekend and bring her back to life.
 
How do you define big? Grand Junction is 2hrs from him with 60,000 population. That's probably the biggest town in a 400 mile radius. Hard part is having to drive over at least 1 mountain pass to get anywhere like that.

Was wondering if there was a good automotive shop it could be taken to for evaluation and estimate of repair.
 
That's a good question. No idea what kind of mechanics there are in Ouray. From the sounds of the Facebook posts, driving it to Grand Junction or even Montrose might be a no go.
 
There are no good mechanics in Ouray, as far as (affordably) putting a new motor in Big Red goes... likely need a tow. Montrose is about 20 miles away and has several shops, though I'm not sure of any of their reputations.
 
If he can wait a month, I will run down and get it. I will have the barn done by then and I will do the swap. Now for an engine.
 
if he wants to make jegs or summit racing catalog or even lmc see if they will hook us up with a discount on a engine and pop him in there maybe with a company sticker on the front windshield for the photo op. :dunno:

there is a local guy to me with new un opened crate 290hp 350 gm engine . hits c-list every few months and is 300-400 off even the free ship price . but if I got it then shipping to him would kill it .

Will keep this thread updated as I hear updates. Still no word from the boss man on getting his membership renewed. Kinda surprised as it just took a few hours to get a response last time. :dunno:
