OFFICIAL* Dante's Peak Suburban Build *

As others have said I love how this thread has worked out and the massive coordination of members, excellent to watch and makes me proud to say I even got to watch it happen! Nice work guys!:saweet:

I was talking to a jeeper guy who is a friend of a friend. He was boasting about the jeep community. So I loaded up this thread and let him read through it while we ate lunch.

His first statement after reading was "I should buy an old Chevy. None of the guys I wheel with would do that."

He said his friends have been pulled out of trails by full size rigs in the past. They all drive jeeps.

Finished calibrating the speedo, super easy! Push and hold the trip/reset button, turn the truck on, drive two miles, push the button again, and bam! accurate speedo.

Lawrence won't be in Salt Lake until midnight or so, train was delayed arriving at Grand Junction.

I also think any other tire on the planet (other than anything from Interco) would net a substantial gain in economy.those things drag like no other.

Those are Geolanders? It's kinda what they look like.

He got a set of Mickey Thompson Baja claws as a sponsorship goody.

They seem to work well off road, but I can't believe how much they wore down between my first visit and my second visit. He said it was barely 15,000 miles between brand new and worn out.

And, since the truck broke right after our visit, I'd guess the tires haven't changed much since then. Despite having to tell everyone how wonderful his sponsored tires are, I think he'll be getting a more street-friendly tire in the future.

He read the whole thread in one sitting? :eek1:

How does that speedo how far off it is? Is it counting on you going exactly two miles? :dunno:

So it's counting distance, then? That makes sense.

I could easily be persuaded to be jealous... :deal:

I have to do the same for my speedo, and yes it counts how many pulses it gets. As long as you go exactly 2 miles its pretty accurate

From the engine braking on. I gave a fast run down of the build. Dantes Peak is one of his favorite movies. He is a geologist.

Alright. I just spent the last hour reading that section of the thread. Turns out the rescue effort has generated more posts than the actual build did. :eek1:

Thoughts:

1.) MAN, this build has been through way, way too much drama. :doah: :doah:

2.) This effort has involved a whole bunch of people besides @Russell and @MTChevy. A bunch of folks have put skin into this thing.

3.) Despite the long list of parts I was asked for, I ended up contributing zero parts when the smoke cleared. :haha: Plans changed several times.

4.) Lawrence has created a beautiful rig that is an asset to this community, and a focal point for some really cool effort from some awesome folks. May it continue to inspire folks for a long time yet. :waytogo:

5.) The brotherhood shines brightly in this thread.

Just caught up on this whole - story. You guys are fantastic for trying to make this happen! Way to represent the CK5 Brotherhood!

Just joined this forum because of this thread. I am taken back by the sense of family amongst the members. I'm quite a distance away, but I would like help in any way I can. How can I donate money, parts, etc?

My favorite part (to read) was this exchange:

I don't think time or money is an issue for any one person. As long as it gets to Russel by the 29th we are all good. Everyone hauling knows Lawrence personally and wants to help.:waytogo:

It will be a cool story to tell the ladies when each of us is in an old folks home.

Does that mean Richard and I can stop at the old folks home and throw you guys in the back of the burb and go for a joy ride?

:burb: We can stop by the home on the way to the 50th Anniversary Blazer Bash :woot:

Sure. But by then we should be in flying burbs.

:haha:

So...it's past midnight now... :deal:

It's past midnight and he's happily driving Big Red back towards Ouray, didn't want to stay the night because of his oxygen situation.

As for the money, those dang puppy dog eyes of his broke me down. But it was nice to catch up with a good friend for a while.

You guys are amazing! Every last one of you who donated time, money, parts or even kind words to this project should be right proud of yourselves!

I'm super happy that Lawrence has his suburban back in time for the show season and EJS. :)

Wow. That makes for a LONG day to do both legs back to back. :eek1:

He is pretty good at that. Glad you got to catch up. Did you get any pictures?
