ok.. help me decide if it's a draw, and if so, maybe help me chase it??

Haha... I stared at it for 30 min, got it all scrubbed up, and put the carpet and the backseat back in...

I had already considered rhino lining and I prob will someday but there us definitely some rust to take care of first.

Do the soft tops go down? What's the word... Can you roll them back?? Looks to me like they stay up all the time? I had originally planned on one but I don't want it if I can't put it down most of the time. I like to roll topless all the time- winter, rain, whatever. I'm mainly looking to find a solution for keeping water off that carpet so it doesn't grow mold and encourage rust..... I may just pull it all out, put in some drain holes, get the rust fixed, and rhino line the whole thing.

I had a vision of a custom soft top that had no cage- kind of like what you see on Jeep YJs

Totally ordered the kill switch, thanks...

Still leaning towards a custom soft top... I'm gonna dig around upholstery places in Dallas and see

Uh, just remove the carpet if you plan on leaving the top off long term. That's what I did. Actually, my carpet was already moldy so it had to go. But I used to take the top off in April and didn't put it back on till Oct/Nov. And it was my DD for a year between the time I sold my pickup till I bought my car. And I never garaged it till recently.

Lose the carpets. Lose the interior bed side panels cause they will get moldy too. Fold the rear seat down when you expect rain and flip it back up and let the sun beat down on it to dry it out after. As long as it dries quickly and completely it will stay clean. If you leave it folded up it won't dry and can get moldy.

I saw yours was herculined... I've already taken the carpet off the wheel wells and yes, plan to ditch the carpet all together eventually. The only reason I left it for now is that I'm not really ready to pull out the front seats as well and coat it all just yet.

I assume you don't have drain holes- do you find that water pools up in the cab? We get these torrential storms here in TX that are like 3-4 inches at a time and I find I have to park on an angle to let the water roll out, unlike my jeep that has drains and just does it on its own...

Also, and sorry for the barrage, but you're doing exactly what I had planned- right down to the roll bar in back- I'm a little concerned about the electronics and stuff getting soaked. My jeep weathers it well but the K5 seems a little iffy. Any thoughts?

Another concern I have with not having carpets is the texas heat... I don't really want to line it white but black would really be a bear in the summer. You wouldn't even be able to touch it...

We just had some serious storms and a lot of rain. I had no water pooled up anywhere and mine stays off. It does catch in the floor latch areas for the rear and passenger seats, but evaporates. I also park on a very very slight decline so it can run off past the tailgate. Plus the floorpan is full of rust holes :D

Bed liner could be painted any color. The black isn't terrible in the summer, it gets hot here in AR too. I never have a need to touch the floor so it being hot isn't too important. Only thing I could think of is if you're stuck in traffic on a 100+ degree day, and it radiating heat.

Yeah, it's gonna radiate heat while sitting in traffic regardless of what color.

What electronics? There is absolutely zero wiring inside the truck from the B pillar to the rear (except maybe speakers?). The wiring for the tail lights and tail gate run under the truck, already exposed to the elements. Everything in the front (under the dash, stereo, cab light, pwr windows) is covered under the 1/2 cab. On top of that, mine is FI and I have the ECM under the dash, never once had a wet weather related issue.

Your carpet is the biggest moisture collector (grooming habits aside :haha:). I get a little water pooling on the front floor after a rain. I just find something to drive on that will raise one side (like a curb), then open the door and watch what little water is there run out. Really an insignificant amount. If you are concerned you could always buy some small rubber plugs at the hardware store and just drill a hole in the low spot.

I'm thinking drain plugs, yes. And removal of carpet, yes.

I'm just so disinclined to do body work at this point- see other posts where I refer to it as "lipstick on the pig"... But maybe I have it backwards... Remove carpet, deal with whatever is under it, rhino line/herculine whatever... THEN deal with "The Rest". Cuz I suppose I'm not going to be too worried about the wiring when I'm Fred flinstone ....

In other news, I just took it on a brief errand that shall remain nameless and the hood was not completely closed- my hood woes are many- so I get out at a stop sign to slam it correctly and in the headlights I see.... Smoke. For a second I thought this bit*h was on fire.... But no. Just smoking like a hippie.

So that kinda suxxxx

I'm ok with smoke.... But this thing was smoking like it was on fire. That's a little much...

maybe you got bad valve cover gaskets and your leaking oil on the exhaust manifolds.

I guess its blue... It's also black sometimes lol... Like when the gas pedal sticks. it's certainly not white.

Valve cover gaskets are on the list too. Easy enough, doesn't hurt anything. I'm leaking oil from everywhere I guess

I thought I had fixed it once already- it didn't happen for a long long time then happened twice yesterday. I think its actually something sticking at the carb. Its a manual so it's not that big a deal, if it starts to idle suspiciously high I pull over. If I open the hood and play with the throttle it stops. Haven't quite figured out what is happening yet.
