Old Iron 2.0

No, I was asking about the front bumper he removed. All 1981-1982 models have bumper mounted front turn signals.

I'm not sure what the plan is for that yet.

Once I start working on the lights I would like to have everything be LED, all the turn signals, brake lights and backup lights.

I may put a grill back in, I just noticed the core support has cut-outs for more headlight buckets, there is a spare one located on either side under the headlights that are there. So I'd like to ad an extra set.

If I go that route I'll use the grill, headlights and bezels from the quad headlight setup that uses the 4 same size headlights and I'll use the factory style blinkers that go behind the grill.

I don't plan on having a stock bumper back on the front or rear.

I'm gonna swap my front spring hangers side to side (52's) and weld some plate to them that extends maybe an inch or so past the frame rails and use a piece of large angle iron or c channel to make a foot forward winch mount.

At this point I'm just trying to do whatever I can that's free, removing parts that I don't plan on using, removing extra weight and prepping for the upcoming upgrades

I have a shop very close to me that I can use their tools and lift for really cheap. I'm planning on air chiseling off all of the rivets for the front spring hangers, front shackle hangers, rear shackle hangers and rear spring hangers (rear spring hangers are coming off to be cleaned up, they have that nice flaky rust between them and the frame rails.

All of that stuff will be bolted back on with Grade 8 hardware and when the time comes to put on a shackle flip and such things should get done way for quickly.

I'm trying to be as budget minded about this as possible and make as much stuff as I competently as I can.

I removed the gun rack and some sort of spotlight or antennae mount that was mointed dead center on top of the cab roof. That left a 9/16"ish size hole. I'm planning on sealing that up with some sheet metal, rivets and rtv.

I'm planning on scouring the local junkyards soon. I'll be looking for a 2WD box, a Chevy Express steering shaft (like the one I used earlier in this thread on the K5) a passenger drop 241C (doubt I'll find one of these in a yard), windstar electric fans, steering wheel with horn button and some doors with good glass that rolls up and down.

I have A LOT of stuff that I've saved from past trucks that I've parted out... like boxes and large ammo cans full of stuff.

I found a set of extremely loud horns that I had mounted in my '76 SWB.

The will be getting mounted to the front of the core support.

I had them mounted to the firewall on my '76 and they were super loud but they would probably be twice as efficient mounted on the core support.

Made a winch plate template out of cardboard. Super simple, feet forward design with some bracing.

I'm sure I could cut all of the metal and booger it together but I went ahead and emailed it to a company that does plasma table and CNC press brake stuff to see if they can make it.

I'm trying to have it made in 3 separate pieces (the two frame rail mounts and the winch plate with bracing) with indexing slots and tabs so I can weld it up nice and square.

I sat it flush against the feet on the winch, the winch will fit in there like a glove and I have enough room to comfortably engage the spool knob with it clocked in the right position

Tell me what you think. The bottom will be boxed in too (not shown in pics).

I'm also tossing around the idea of buying this winch plate (attached pics) and just making or having some plates for the outer side of the frame rails made to mount it to.

The plate is 28" wide. Outside to outside of my frame rails measures out to 28.25", surely I can squeeze them down to 28" with a ratchet strap.

The frame plates would be of the same design as my cardboard rendering with the plate attaching to the top of them.

I may try and squeeze the stock bumper back on there if I go this route, would have to take some material off of the top but I think it would be doable.
