Old Iron 2.0

Went to unbolt the rear leaf springs and didn't realize how much rust there was, the pocket in the rear spring hanger where the nut for the spring eye bolt sits was full of rust on both sides.

The nut and threaded portion of the bolt are one, think I'm gonna have to stick the sawsaw in between the rubber bushing and the insides of the spring hanger and cut the bolt out on both sides.

Great way to start the day...

Had to get new blades, all of the old ones teeth wer rounded off. I was using blades made for cutting thing metal too so a 9/16" Grade 8 bolt probably didn't help extend the life of them much.

Had to pull the fuel tank. Its been leaking really bad lately and I have to cut the leaf spring bolt on that side also. Really don't want a spark from the cutting to be the end of myself or the truck.

Just as I'm making some progress it's starts to rain with some light hail...

Anyway, got the two rusted bolts cut out without gouging the spring eyes or spring hangers.

Unhooked everything on the passenger side rear needed to get the springs out. If the weather keeps on like this I won't get to the driver side until tomorrow.

Bushings still haven't came in the mail either...

The bolts that I was trying to cut with these rounded the teeth off of all 4 blades very quickly.

I ended up using a cut-off wheel which worked well.

Went through the same thing last week helping a buddy install a lift on a yj jeep. After we wasted a couple of blades we switched to the death wheel. Much easier.

Oh I waved as I went by the base on 115 on my way to Denver this afternoon. It was before the rain hit. Gate 10 is where the recreation area is.

Got the rear springs pulled then I removed the rubber bushings. I'll get the sleeves out in the morning then get the poly bushings in.

One spring pack has less arch than the other, it was very noticeable when the truck was completely together. The driver side sat a few inches lower in the rear.

I plan on taking the overload out and adding two or three more leads from another set of springs once I find some, I will most likely be doing the same to the rear.

Just means it's broken in and won't sag anymore

Nonr of the leaves are cracked centerline with the pin so...

Idk what the hell the guy before me did to flatten it out like that.

These springs are going on temporarily. The next set of 52's I find will be put in their place and I will rob the extra leaves off of this pack to build the next one thicker.

Main leaf on one of the springs does have a crack... funny thing is it's the spring with more arch. The crack is small, it doesn't run all the way across the leaf. It will be getting swapped out regardless.

2nd pic is where I'm currently at. Gonna get the D60 bolted up and slap some tars on her.

Front axle wrapped up. Everything is "loosely" installed, I haven't torqued any nut or cut U-bolts yet due to me having to re-doing the front spring packs.

I'm happy with the shackle angle.

Hopefully my bushings come in tomorrow so she can sit on all fours.

Gonna get the shackle flip holes opened up to 7/16" then bolt em on then clean my driveway up and that'll probably be it for the day

I think gonna have to use my engine hoist or the Hi-lift to get the ass end up high enough to mount the tires, my floor jack only goes up to 23".

Make a Jack extention
I have a piece of 6x6 that I've been using here and there. I've used the cherry picker for stuff like this before I just don't feel like rolling it out of the back of my garage.

I could probably pull it of with the floor jack and 6x6.

Really don't wanna use the Hi-lift and kill myself to death.
