Old Iron Build ('79 K5 Cheyenne)

yes the axle is forward on the spring and I'm all the way forward in the A-Bomb.

Not sure on the firewall since I have inner fenders still but I'd say I'm a finger or two off that. I just rub the outer fender a bit, as you can see in that pic. I should also mention those BFG 35's are really measuring out to 33.5"

Gotcha, well I guess I'll have to get everything put in there and see how it works.

Got some stuff in today.

Shackle flip
60" Hi-Lift
Rescue 42 Jackmate

I'm gonna hit the junkyard tomorrow to find some 52" springs, the ones I take off of the K5 will be my replacement set for down the road.

I might start the shackle flip tomorrow too.

I'm gonna need new bushings for the 52" springs so the front probably won't be wrapped up until I get those.

I have some poly bushings in my garage, hopefully they're the right ones.

Do the bushings differ between front and rear spring eyes on the 52" springs?

Got some 52" springs from the junkyard. 4 leaves + overload. The ones that are currently on the rear of the K5 are 5 + overload. Working on getting the rubber bushings out now and cutting the sleeve out sometime today.

Got the shackle flips painted.

The junkyard had an '81-'87 C10 and the cab looks beautiful, it's baby blue and doesnt have any rust on it or bodywork done, he said he wanted around $285 for it. I'm thinking if it's still there in a few months I may pick it up and use it for my pickup.

You'd be crazy not to scoop that cab up now before some yard bird rams it with the fork loader.

Figured I would share this.

15/16 deep socket with a 10" or 12" punch put through the socket end. the tip of the punch protrudes through the socket about 1.5" to center everything on the inner sleeve, the socket fits perfectly within the outer sleeve. It helped tremendously for punching the old rubber bushings.

The socket peeled back some steel on the punch from the hammering but I knocked that down on the bench grinder.

Finished up for the night. Had to help a buddy move for a few hours

B52 Brackets mounted further back
6" shackles installed
52" springs mounted front spring eye in forward most hole in brackets.

Shackle angle is exactly what I was aiming for, a few more degrees back wouldn't hurt but I'm satisfied with where it's at.

Looks to be enough room to be able to stuff the tires without hitting the firewall. I'll be putting inner fenderwells back in so we'll see how that goes.

I had to pull the poly bushings out of the 56's to put into the 52's. Had to use a seal puller and snagged a small hole in one of the bushings, should be fine.

Truck looks pretty even too from the front.

Very nice.

And old bushings....it's all about fire IMO

I've only got a small propane torch and it doesn't do a whole lot on its own. I poured laquer thinner (it burns longer than gas and the wind won't blow it out) on the bushings and it really didn't do anything.

The drilling method works well if your in my situation.
