Old Iron Build ('79 K5 Cheyenne)

I wasn't able to move my A-Bomb forward or rearward. Mine only has one series of mounting holes.

It has the 8 holes per B52 and 3 larger diameter bolts on each side that tie the front of the A-Bomb and frame horns together.

Yeah, I was talking about the spring hanger holes, not the frame attaching holes.

Here is a pic of the polyurethane washers from Ebay that I used to tighten up the shackles at the tab. Would be way better if it was just one solid thick washer on each side instead of two on each side but these were the most reasonably priced option I could find.

Now, those are 7/8" d-rings which I assume you have too since the holes in the a-bomb are meant for a 1" cross pin. If you are running 7/8" d-rings I would like to know how you are running the Factor 55 thimble that is supposed to only take a 3/4" d-ring. If you are running 3/4" d-rings then there are listings on Ebay for other shackle spacers that will work for you.

Update.

So the progress on the K5 has come to a halt... I'll be removing and swapping all parts from the K5 to my '76 K10.

Long story...

I will continue the parts swap/progress in this build thread.

Here's how she looked last week before being moved to the backyard for teardown.

Good luck on the transfer of parts. I had a quick question, what are you planning on doing with all of the exterior trim?

What exactly are you interested in?

I'm keeping the headlihlght bezels and side markers.

The trim that runns down the sides of the body aren't that great.

I don't plan on keeping any of the emblems.

How much would you want for the emblems? I'd be interested in the side trim if it isn't too dented. If it needs a re-paint and a good cleaning that's ok. I don't know how economical it would be to ship the trim though.

The side trim isn't worth it.

I'll get back to you on the emblems.

Why?

Martin

A plethora of reasons. Not enough room for both trucks, not enough money to build/work on both trucks, divorce.

I would've been putting all my parts on the pickup originally but it was my daily driver and I wouldn't have enought time between work to put the parts on and keep it running continously, so I bought the K5.

My pickup started having major issues with cutting off in traffic a few weeks ago. I got mud or muddy water in both fuel tanks and it's been clogging up the carb, not chunks of mud or anything but a very fine layer of murky mud sits in the bottom of my fuel bowls and turns brand new fuel filters red brown within a few days of running the engine. If I tear down the carb and clean it all is well but I don't have time right now to keep doing it.

The pickup is sitting in the garage right now waiting to be worked on once I get 1000 other things in life taken care of.

Update:

Pulled the front end off of the pickup, pulled the engine, trans and t-case. Stripped all wiring, pulled the cracked windshield out, cut the dash (there a little more than 1/4" of a lip left). stripped everything from the inside and off of the firewall.

Mocked my ORD crossmember with the DIY4X Poly mounts, still haven't drilled the mounting holes into the bottom of the frame rails yet.

Ran into some bondo when I was cleaning up after I took the rain gutter things off from above the doors. Someone used a lot of bondo for a really small dent on the cab. I like the dent better than the bondo.

Also have some rust to repair...

I want to pull the engine, trans and t-case out of the K5 before I strip the suspension since it will be sitting on the frame until I figure out how to get rid of it. THe goal is to have this done before it starts snowing so I can work on all of my stuff in the garage this winter.

Thanks man, I kinda lost the feel for it for a little while. It's always nice to get something done even if it's something small!

Sure is man, I never got around to cleaning it. My engine has a nice layer on it too. Wish I would have went to the car wash a pressure washed everything right after that trip.
