ONE BIG JIMMY "Everything In TX Is Bigger!"

I did the cucv radiator swap on my K5. It fit fine but the radiator hose nipples are different sizes (for a big block). I used the fan shroud too.

For the top nipple, it was too big so I had a rad shop braze on a new one the right size.

On the lower I used the cucv diesel hose. The hose was bigger than the water pump so I cut a piece off of the 454 hose and used it as a bushing to make the cucv hose fit. Works good with no leaks.

Edit: I didn't change the lower hose nipple because the shop was giving a bunch of bs about wanting to replace the radiator. I took what they had done and went with it.

out of curiosity, what do they charge to powdercoat a frame if ya don't mind me asking?

It was $1400 for the frame and all the brackets, arms, core support, battery trays, seat brackets, skid plates and crossmembers and a whole bin full off small parts and pieces and the inner fender wells. That also included the sand blasting.

That what I thought and that frame had the military carc paint on it and was a pain to get off
My coater has become a pretty good buddy of mine now and I get good deals from time to time

I have used an original radiator hose piece as well in the past as a adapter hose and ha zero issues out of it.
And probably will be what I will have to do on this one as well

The guy at the radiator shop kept trying to buy the radiator off of me to the point where I was upset about it.

He said those old 6.2 radiators are a beast and the new ones that replace them are crap so I took the hint and found another one to keep for a spare or another project

JTR (jags that run) has all sorts of radiator hose adapters. You can get them from any hose diameter to any other diameter. Made from aluminum. I just got one for my blazer with a heater hose nipple on it. Cost $25 and took a few days to get in. Just an option.

Frame in the shop and now for the fun.
Bolting up all the clean pretty parts LOL!

I loved the way the engine mount turned out. Now that it is all the same color it looks like it was supposed to be there.

DIY4X Shackle flip kit ready to go.

These ended up being a little difficult to mount after the coating but after cleaning up the holes they went on ok. I think the reason for that was the coating thickness on the frame and on the bracket itself spaced it out about 1/16" from the frame.
No big deal though :waytogo:

Here are a couple more shots on the ORD Big Block engine mount from the top view.

The rear shackle mounts where the same way as the flip kit a little hard to bolt up due to the powder coating. But after a little messaging no problem :D
Also mounted the quad shock mounts.

Having all that stuff powder coated really makes it look good! :pimp: Surely you're not going to be something that nice. :doah:

So if you looked at my original number 1 post you can see that I had already taken the bumper and frame extensions off of a CUCV M1009 and had the chromed. I really like having the shackles and able to use them. A good towing or snatching point is always a bonus.
I also chromed the factory tow hooks and went to the store and picked up some grade 8 4" bolts to get it to all mount up right.
Plus I just wanted it a little more different than most rigs I have seen.

Probably :dunno:

I have another 86 K5 that is going to be the beater. Retired CUCV :D

Plus looking at doing the POR15 and having a sand blast place do the blasting it was only 250 dollars more to do the coating and a turd pot less labor to get it coated.
That was one of those Time = Money moves
