One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

I like it very much. It blows 50F at idle and 44F with just a bit of consistent airflow.

The kit is well thought out, and the only modifications were related to the hardware and mounting of the air handler and circuiting in a coolant filter. I used their largest condenser, and a new Sanden U4440 compressor. It all charged up as intended with 1.8 lbs of Freon.

The new cooler stack seems well suited to the fan clutch. It routinely and consistently engaged at 190F and disengaged at 175F. I'm reading my temps at the coolant crossover.

It was 96F yesterday afternoon on our way to the meet up, and it's powerful enough to keep us comfy. Windows were up and we eventually set the fan to half speed.

It actually blows colder than my dad's Duramax.

Owatonna, Minnesota, eh? Small world. :wink1:

Sounds like everything is working as planned, always a good thing.
It's early days, but I can't help but grin ear to ear while driving it. I really appreciate you sharing the photos of your intercooler install. They were a very helpful jumpstart.

Awesome. Driving mine is always a joy too. Any time, always willing to help if I can.

Awesome build...... makes me wish my current burb was a diesel. I've had two a 84 and 95 both diesel but for now I think i'm going to play around with the gas motor for a bit.

I may have missed it somewhere but was this originally a 1500 or 2500. :burb:

Thank you, and welcome to the site. Mine was originally a K10.

Some people go to the bar on Thursday nights. I like to open the shop and do small maintenance tasks or clean and organize.

I changed the oil (8qts Rotella 15W-40 and NAPA 1794) and replaced a cracked barrel connector in the AC ground path. It's a ground interrupt system, and so my fan was coming on randomly.

All done. Time for a shiner. My kind of happy hour.

I've started measuring drive pressure vs boost pressure and boost drop across the intercooler. The TE06H is not ideally matched to the longer and more restrictive intake path. Working with Majestic Turbo, a T3/T4 might be in the not too terribly distant future.

Just need to get past the house addition...

An hx35/40 hybrid is a nice turbo for the 6.2 with some decent fueling. I have a hx/40 to put on mine once I get some money to rebuild it. I scored it for free off an 8.3 cummins :saweet:.
