Quoted for truth.

Somehow I completely forgot about this thread. And as you've likely noticed over the past hour there were lots of likes added to posts in here.

Hopefully meet you and this machine in person someday!

WHAT THE HELL......??
It's Ethan's way of keeping me from being mad at him for liking his Detroit locker too much to sell to me. After we agreed on a price. He still sent me his open carrier but now I need to find my own Detroit and install it.

No, I offered to track down a new one and send it for our agreed cost. I just don't want to tear that axle apart at this time. It turned out to be too much fun once I finally got it onto the trail.

I just meant that BB18 is starting to look worth the drive, and having the Detroit helps tip the scale.

At any rate, let's try to re-rail this thread and carry on with Dave's suburban.
Agreed. I'll start.

The turbo is sitting happily in the box that @sreidmx sent it in. The compressor wheel is chipped and will be replaced, but the bearing is in good shape, so it should be a simple rebuild at my local Holset authorized shop. The HE351CW is substantially larger than my TE06H, so it's unlikely I'll be able to use the Banks manifold as-is. I'll have to come up with a flange extension or relocation, or build an entirely new manifold. Also, the exhaust housing is 4" rather than my current 2.5", so I'll build a new crossover and downpipe. Incidentally, there's hardly 3" of room between the manifold and frame rail, so a new downpipe will be at least partly oval.

Honestly, I'm down for a custom manifold build. There's a 6.2L head sitting in the corner of the shop that will be useful for mock up. I just need to figure out if there's a precut flange out there, or if I have to build my own. I might be making a paper pattern and calling @Deuling, and depending on how far I go with it, I might pull the heads and throw on some head studs. But that will have to wait for a bit. The Charger's rockers aren't going to build themselves, and I'm itching to get back to work on it.

This weekend is all about maintenance and cleanup from Moab, and prep for my last hiking trip of the season. A buddy of mine and I are hitting Taos again to go peak bagging - should get a handful, including Gold Hill and Wheeler. Happy hour at the local Moto shop tonight.

You're running the normal Banks crossover pipe, right? Coming up toward the front of the passenger side manifold?

I'll be watching this closely, as I'm still head scratching over how I'm supposed to route both a crossover pipe and a down pipe through that cramped slot. Without hitting the A/C box or my new front shock mounts. It'll be a fun game of Tetris. The 6.5 trucks had ~3 more inches between the rails, IIRC.

Otherwise my advice would be 4" all the way back... :thumb:

My crossover runs across the front and under the balancer, and I don't see how you get this done with regular 6.5 manifolds without major use of oval pipe. The Banks stuff fits really well.

If I'm building oval, the downpipe can easily maintain a 3.5" cross section area, and I'll just have to do a bit of widening for 4".
