One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

These pictures show several different project phases, with different techniques that you've picked up along the way. The aluminum lines were clearly not done by the same David that coiled the brake lines.

Not that I have anything against the brake lines, it just shows how the workmanship quality keeps rising the longer you keep working on the truck. :thumb:

Some sleep before Moab. We’re stopping in ABQ.

That’s original GM, but it’s possible the guy that bent those at the factory shared y’all given name. That said, they bother me.

Ok. I assumed they had been replaced at some point, because there's no wire coiled around the outside of the line. My 3 square rigs all had wire-coiled brake lines running to the M/C.

But the point still stands...the new lines are cleaner than the old ones. :deal:

Headed back to Texas, and wanted to express my appreciation to the crew that organized the led the event. Kurt, Kris, and I had a fantastic time, and it was apparent to us the care and detail put into the preparations.

Thank you - @ktmoutfront @Bent77 @Stephen and the rest of the team (any oversight is unintentional).

Top notch, as always.

I've been wondering ever since I saw you had the 2" wheel spacers for sale, did you run those because you liked having the tires out a little further?

It was to correct the H2 backspacing. 5-5/8 is a bit much, so pulling out 2" was good. With the new wheels, I'm at 4-1/4, which I think is perfect.

David

I didn't know the H2 were like that. I knew H1 wheels had horrible back space for solid axle trucks.

On my 88 CC I have H2s without spacers in the front with 37s, minimal lift, good clearance and a wide van Corp 14 in the rear.

It’s a lot. For some, it works fine, and the tires are nearly even with the fender. It just didn’t work for my combination, and felt more stable with the extra width. Again, 4-1/4” is BS is perfect to me, so a 1.5” spacer would have been better.

They fit well enough for me that I didn’t put spacer on for a few years, but a lower rig might not need the extra width for stability.

I was kinda toying around with adding spacers but I have no idea the back spacing - bought them used. They are Robby Godons like yours but non-beadlock. So I'm guessing maybe I have 4-1/4" as well.

IDK, just thinking of stuff to play with I guess. Haha

I love the width of the RGs, and wouldn’t change a thing. 90% of the time, I actually prefer the narrower rear (tighter turning), and don’t run the 1.5” spacers that are so common.

I’ve been in the field since SEMA, and hunting white tails in this big old rock crawler. I love using these big trucks like the Swiss Army Knives they are.

Next up: a whole mess of ORD’s Kevlar bushings, a big brake upgrade. 2020 has some large plans, too. #TrailToSEMA2020

I’ve seen those Kevlars advertised, and plan on running them as mine wear out.

Will be interested in seeing what 2020 brings.
