One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Clickers are on the remote resi’ shock.

That is what I thought, I really should read build threads at work and try to juggle a ton...

When spec out by ORD what was the original thought process behind the design? Slow crawling or medium speed desert?

Medium speed stuff with a modest load, plus crawling, and highway stuff.

That is what I told them I wanted, good cause I originally wanted to put a bypass shock in the rear but a resi should will work just fine. The offroad racing has told me bypasses are the way to go.

Before it goes out to the rest of the internet. Enjoy.

That is the only thing I can think of. :rotfl:

Already in the build thread. Scroll on back to post 669 for all the details, front and rear.

It should come as no surprise, but this setup has since been revised.

Man, you're not kidding. I'm still reading. Nice pics, everything is thought out, and you explain what and why...plus you-tube vids, too! Thank you, I need to finish reading and thinking about all this, but I'm sure I'll have a few questions when I'm done. It's even better this was a sub build, since my frame is actually off a sub, so a lot of your stuff is going to transfer right over, at least I'm hoping! Thank you for taking the time to take photos and write all this out...it's a book, but a good reference book is always nice to have. If you could just teach me to weld like that......

It’s mostly a catalog of what I’ve learned, and I’m glad it’s useful to you.

David
I have learned that it's much cheaper to learn from someone else's mistakes than your own. I've contributed plenty to the mistake fund, I try to talk and read as much as I can before I start changing things now. Only problem is I thought I was just about done...now I've got more things I want to do! I had noticed that issue with the rear springs hitting the ORD hangers, thanks for the rundown on why and what to do to fix it. I'm starting on the rear suspension this week, so you'll probably be hearing from me soon!

The truck will spend a few weeks at my friends’ shop, getting a fresh harness. We settled on a nice sealed piece from American Autowire, which ties directly to the Dakota Digital cluster.

Meanwhile, I’m registered for BB21. Behind the rocks, Pritchett, and metal masher. Must (re)build sliders.

Pritchett?

Four sticks of DOM were delivered for the Rev1 sliders. I'm now poor, but at least have a plan for this new set of rocker protection.

2x.250 lower rail, meant to take a beating; 1-5/8x.134 kickers with a bit of an extra wedge toward the rear to push a rock or something around to the tire; and it will all be trussed to the frame with 1-3/4x.120. I'll make a plate and some cross pieces to tie the kicker to the rail.

Fun days ahead.
