I feel super jealous that all this public land is so close at hand for you folks out west. Texas sold all but 1.5% of its public land holdings to private interests since 1845 (which is always a short-sighted and poorly judged decision), and I have to leave my state to enjoy anything resembling this kind of open access.

We’re fortunate to have the time and support to do these huge trips, but I can’t feature how different my weekends would be if I had similar access to these spaces as you.

Went out to Texas Square Bodies to pickup the first batch of filler-free steel for the truck. It’s just a hood and fenders, and I’ll have to make another run for quarters.

It’s time to clean up the truck and make it look nice. Paint, body work, the whole bit. We’re going back to 1985.

No more hard trails. The waggy will fill that role. It’s time to shift the suburban more exclusively to camping, and take better care of the body. The cowl is cracked. Both fenders are broken. I chooched a quarter pretty good, and I’ve put off closing in the cut panels for too long.

Definitely going for more of an adventure rig kind of thing. It’s better for the business to make it nice and preach the good word of squares to the camping crowd.

It’ll be fun. My dad thinks I’m going back with a modern blue, but will actually return it to the original blue he picked out when he ordered it. Seymour acquired the color codes when they bought Color Bond.

Changing the pattern. Probably have some on the sides panels and make an actual extractor.

I am excited to see how this stage turns out. I have been so amazed at your patience in getting all of these details worked out with lots of time and skill.
(I'm somewhat jealous of the time commitment, but I am also clueless of everything that you do in the background for everything.)

Going back to what your Dad picked out made me smile!

If I was closer, I would ask what the price is on the old hood coming off.

The look on my dad’s face when he sees it roll out of my friend’s paint booth is the part I’m looking forward to the most. I have to time it carefully so he doesn’t/can’t see the videos leading up to it.

That hood will probably go up on the wall at the OP. It’s just a cheap china repop. I should have started with an OE hood.

I love your Burb and the story behind it. Im sure your dad will be extremely excited whenever he sees it the first time.

I forget that most folks have never seen it before the current 2000 paint job of “indigo blue metallic.”

They called it “midnight blue” on the original color cards, which was a single stage enamel that looked great brand new, but came off when washed, waxed, or looked at. Seymour is mixing this with a tiny bit of metallic (about 10% the “normal” level), and we’ll add a full-luster clear.
